Prep/Trad/Ivy hat guide?
I love hats, all types of them, I have many hats from around the world. I like classic hats but the only one I found I can wear without it being too much of a statement is a white panama with about a medium to small brim (square face) that I wear all summer. I have both a summer (boater) and winter (homburg) black tie hats which where both ‘tism purchases I can rarely wear. I like bucket hats and wear them with casual fits and I wear a baseball cap once In a while. Hat recommendations?

No, the argument was that jeans and slimshit don't fit into this style, not whether upper class people (and those posters were more than likely LARPers who aren't upper class at all) ever wear them. Just because an upper class person wears something does not automatically make it TIP. By that logic, if a WASP wore polyester bell bottoms and a disco shirt, then those items would automatically become TIP.

Actually, them being pointy is more historically accurate with its equestrian origins. They derive from jodhpur boots, which needed actual harnesses in order to close, do that is probably why they add them.
Nowadays I honestly prefer jodhpurs to chelseas, but they are alright, I guess. I am thinking of buying a pair in dark brown suede for riding.

The funny thing is that you all know well that they might be obviously baiting you in a deliberately obnoxious classist way but deep inside they’re correct. In human history the attire has always been about signalling the social status. On one hand you want to use as much of what is left of status in collective consciousness around /tip/ (just look at all of that aspirational inspo you post), on the other you refuse to admit that you don’t really belong there and your appropriation is possible only due to loosened gatekeeping from people like them due to globalism. You’re not that much better than rappers buying iced out Rolexes and chains to signal their status. Real money and status like silence, and overdressing is a very loud statement. They know.

I think you're overestimating the extent to which this style was restricted to the elite. My Grandfather was an army man and a biologist his whole life but almost exclusively wears oxfords, khakis, sweaters, and blazers. To me this style is classless: almost everyone has owned these items at some point in their life.

You're LARPing once you start wearing tennis sweaters ("I have the leisure time to play tennis"), crested blazers ("I went to a school prestigious enough to warrant this"), and other shit associated with activities and wealth that you almost never find outside of the elite. Until recently the average man would have had no reason to own any of this. Now your loosened gatekeeping argument applies.

He is working class because of his upbringing. His kids probably could already consider themselves high class given their upbringing. He also married up, if that is worth anything.

It's a real shame bosie decided to reduce their options by 90% and just sell some stock harley jumpers. Otherwise I would have gotten a cable knit from them. The only meaty and thick cableknit is from now defunct Leith clothing which made awesome awesome shetland cables. Damnit.

If I live in a rainy environment and it's winter, does that mean that I should avoid loafers at all costs unless I'm exclusively indoors?

I'm looking for another couples of versatile pairs to use outside of work since I just where black oxfords. Also I just don't want brown, I love how they look but I just never feel drawn to wear them.

I'm considering black bit loafers (or penny/tassle?) and oxblood double monks, I am not sure if it's worth considering a (non-brown) boot and if so, what?

most of their options seem to go from a 38in chest for small to 42in for a medium. I like my sweaters right at 40in lol. that and their length seems long, I wonder if a tailor can shorten a sweater for a reasonable cost.

Yes. Even rubber soled loafers are likely too short and the water will mess up the leather. A shame, because my new pair of oxford has just arrived but i can't use them because it is leather soled and they would get damaged in the rain.

I got the one called: Lightweight Traditional Aran Mens Wool Sweater

I have a chest of 104 cm and since M is at 107cm, I thought that if I had an ocbd under it I would need to run it large because it could become a bit tight. And I made the mistake of ordering L (which is chest of 112cm), it fits me a bit baggy in shoulder area and waist. So I recommend you to go TTS. The measurements on my L size are exactly the sames as the ones shown in the sizing chart, so expect accurate sizing. I should have got M

That's pretty much always the case. Good ties have thin interlining so that tight four in hand knots can be made, this also makes them less "tight" feeling around the neck. Also, no one cares if your tie is a little messy. The perfectly symmetric stuck in place with a tie bar look is silly and affected looking.

With hot and humid climate, the best you can get is ramie. It doesn't wrinkle as much as linen, but it's better for humidity. It's not easy to find shirts made of ramie, there are some 50%cotton 50%ramie shirts available online.

Linen is better for hot+dry, just see where is it native in

sounds like your standard midwesterner reactionary who gets all his information about the outside world from /[pol/

Anyway, if you spend just a couple days there on holiday and you're a clueless tourist just visiting the touristy sites or the shitty arrondissements of course you're going to have a bad impression of the city. However, having lived there for four and a half years (going back to York in England this summer) I can safely say that it really isn't bad at all. It's considerably more charming than London and it really doesn't deserve the hilarious over-the-top reaction that it gets on 4chan. You do need to know where to go though in terms of restaurants and quarters. I particularly like the 16th (for good menswear shops, the few that exist and a nice quiet rich neighbourhood), the 17th (particularly batignoles), the marais (much better the closer you get to republique), the latin quarter, Saint Germain the university quarter and around rue de brequet. I lived for years in Levallois-Perret, the whitest quarter of Paris (technically a suburb) but also the most boring. Restaurants are great. Museums are so-so. Metro is cheap.

If you visit Paris avoid the 18th (particularly near (la chapelle), the 10th (around gare du nord and gare de l'est it's an absolute dive), the 8th, the 1st , the touristy bits of monmartre and the northern bits of the 17th.

Anyway sorry for the rant. Paris still fucking sucks for mens fashion but it isn't the unholy shithole that ignorant people constantly repeat ad nauseam. .

Brazilian summer is hot+dry. The winter is when it is hot+humid. Good to know about rami, though. I haven't seen menswear made out of it, only female dresses and stuff like that.
But honestly, Brazil's climate is not very extreme, the only anomality is it's eventual humidity, but my area is a desert, so...
The natives have that impression because they don't know better and the meme stuck, but this year's summer in France was SHIT, with a max of 49C in some places. Much worse than anything i ever felt down there.

Ratio Clothing OCBDs are fucking great. Come in every color you'd want them to, and at a fixed price lower than their other offerings ($98, everything else is well over $100). You can specify every trad detail, eg. unlined, back collar button, etc. As theyre MTM, you don't have to compromise on anything or settle for slim fit garbage (I punched in the exact specs of a BB Trad fit sizing).

This is very neurotic, but how do people even wear white socks with leather shoes? They go all brown and shitty after one wear for me

I got a Ratio shirt made, put in the exact measurements of a perfect fitting shirt I had. Big mistake, as my favorite shirt had been washed and shrunk.
Ratio made the shirt to those specs, and the first time I had to put it in the wash it shrank and was worthless. Never touched it since. When putting in measurements, always go an inch or so up to account for shrinkage.
The shirt was good, but the collars were too large and looked weird, that was my only issue with them.

Where do/did you live?

Funny you should mention that. I was there last week. It's so cramped though it's impossible to stay for long.
