Do you not go outside for the entire winter or do you live in the south?
I'm a leaf and I used to work in lumber, in Alberta, spent hours running a saw in -40. You get used to it, or at least learn how to adapt or what works for keeping warm. Obviously that's a bit of an extreme example but you get my point. People have to deal with some drastic weather.

I bought these Czech shooting mitts yesterday. They were being sold as surplus but I'm not sure if they're legit. The only tag says "Tonak Nasavrky 1991" which google is telling me is a hat maker. Anyone seen these before?
Going hunting this weekend so I'll see how well they actually hold up in the cold and with shooting.

they're good for different things. I'm the anon who posted some alpinist shit in the neofolk thread-- I appreciate them both but for dramatically different reasons. I'm in chicago, and going full alpinist would look super larpy, while a lot of the shit in this thread ) would look regular (but more effay) than standard cold weather workwear. Also I have shit circulation and I'm grateful to this thread for introducing me to bunny boots lol

No reason you can't mix/match elements anon.

Oh yeah I agree. Milsupr is definitely useful in a lot of situations. Just some of the later pics here reminded me of the turn-of-the-century Bavarian Alpinism and how romantic it is. Like you, I'm an urbanite and I'd rather wear milsurp than mountaineering stuff while in the city. Plus if you're doing climbing in winter you cant go alpine as well.

Who doesn't? Unless you're actually going in the desert, I'd advise you get chukka's. Perfect for projecting power on the north african theatre.

I'm also finding DAK boots but I dislike the idea of canvas in the desert. Seems hot.

I doubt anyone cares but here's a follow up on those gloves. Its 0°C here so not extremely cold, I'm about an hour into my hike innawoods and my hands are getting too hot. They clearly work well in that regard, they dont grip very well and they're a little cumbersome but not unusable. Still not sure if they're genuine surplus.

any commando sweaters/wooly pully sweaters that aren't ridiculously itchy and tight? the three sweaters i have in the pic are all either too thin, too tight, or too itchy

No, it's an outer canvas layer then its lined with what seems to be a synthetic fleece.

Also it seems as if the hat maker I mentioned in my original post did make hats for the Czech army so I think it seems likely that the gloves are real surplus.
