update from last thread, on Pierre Cardin suits. Went to their shop again today to check out the suits they got on sale. 100% wool, super 100s or 120s, others mixed with silk. Made in Italy or Portugal, so nice on paper. But the cuts are boxy, awkward looking and got no drape at all. The fabric's stiff and shoulders too padded.
Didn't buy anything of course.

I would say there is not a Max number, it all depends on sizing and location. For example in that pic you have: jacket's tartan, cricket sweater and the tie. Cricket sweater is a heavily patterned sweater since It has the cableknit on one area and the different colours in the neck. And it's right beside to the other patterns, what all that makes is a huge ammount of colours in the same area (chest). Tie with cricket sweater doesn't look good at all in many situations, but if you remove it from the outfit, just the jacket's tartan and sweater would be fine. You could add an extra pattern on socks for example, which is far away from the rest of patterns.

Lets say some other heavily patterned example: embroidered corduroy pants, like those they sell at Castaway Clothing. If you wear colorful socks, a fair isle or a cable knit sweater on top, the outfit will feel saturated even if you tone down the colours. If you want to add some extra pattern to the heavily saturated embroidered cords fit, you could do so wearing a scarf, because it's far away from the pants and won't saturate a certain area

>Low rise
The current fashion trend is going so strong that even his outfit seems baggy. If you take a look at any popular clothing site, you'll find very few regular fit (or baggier fits), nearly everything is Slim or Skinny fit, this latest one is just terrible and it is becoming extremely popular between the youth. Finding anything other than low-rise is hard, and if you are the sort of shopper that wants to try things in person instead of buying them on the net, it's even harder. I would say that ordering pants online is trickier than ordering sweaters or t-shirts because the fit is more complex: waist, lenght, bagginess... A tailor might solve it, but it's an extra cost.

The outfit that appears in photo is decent, it could improve by tweaking some things, but no one can say that it's shit. I'd love that people dressed more like that, where I live nearly every young guy wears tracksuits, t-shirts, sneakers, sweatpants and hoodies.

I guess that most of the guys that don't posts outfits here also wear low-rise slim pants...

I would choose a more classic cut like your pic, lots today especially pushed as "fashion" are tight and slim and don't have the trad aesthetic.

So on that note, find a used one. Lots have the measurements, this is important. Make sure of course the chest size is right but definitely the sleeve length. Get the shoulder to cuff measurement.

Right arm length really makes or breaks the fit and look imo.

Then make sure the the material outer is 100% wool. All the cheap slim "fashion" sportscoat you see are mainly polyester or blends. Plastic trash. Aim for "new" or "virgin" wool as wool can be recycled and but new wool is sued for the first time.

Make sure the lining is viscose (silk is fine too but you'll rarely find that as it;s really high end)

Avoid polyester linings, although you might find the body lining viscose and the arm linings polyester which is generally OK.

Look at the tabs, I only purchase sportscoats manufactured in European countries or America.

Older used ones usually are though and are 100% wool and 100% viscose inside and can be found for not much more than 10 to 20 dollars.

Oh yeah and shoulder pads have come and gone in different styles, most online wont mention that part so unless you thrift in person and purchase online, you might not know exactly how the shoulder pads are, they can be easily taken out though.

Learn how to wash them in your machine to save on dry cleaning costs (mainly fold them tightly inside out) and dry them naturally flat and not hanging.

Trad style of short torso long lengs was done in the past to make you look longer. It's fine if you are a midget, if you are above 180cm of height you look really bad, that's why it has dissapeared, no models wear it that way because people are taller now than in the 40-50s. Just midgets like Ethan Wong dress that way to look taller.

Have you checked all the size? I'm not super keen on that color, always think what items of clothing you already have to pair with it. I have a greenish jacket that pairs well with black pants.

If you haven't dressed this way, think what colors you usually wear and get close to it. So if you get a jacket that pairs well with cream pants and you never wear cream pants you are gonna feel more out of your comfort zone.

Some jackets are from the 70s but I tend to get ones from the 90s as they will in general be in better condition.

Oh and I think even $30 is a little too much. If you get one with no defects and in good condition you can still find them for much less.

I found a new jacket with tags on for $10.

It's worth checking daily for a few days for things, a chest size of around 40 is roughly what you will find the majority of jackets around that size. That means there should be plenty of new ones all the time. Extremes like a 34 or 50 are rare and taken quickly.

The new jacket I picked up was a herringbone, cream colored though which is probably less desirable but good for Summer with blue chinos.
