btw people in here who shit on Slim fit, this pic was from the 50s and the guy in front is clearly wearing very well-fitted white trousers. His sweater is also very form fitting. Trad/fags will cry about this, but prep and ivy are very slim-fit friendly, nothing looks better and smarter than well-fitted clothes.

literally everyone/where in the world is transfixed on slim fit (this is slowly changing though), why do you need to fight for the approval of the one safe space where people can discuss building more traditional cut clothes

also that picture is from the 1960's, and there's a world of difference between the overall trend of slimming down from trad->prep and some guy in uniqlocrew shit pretending his low rise pants and darted shirt dont make him look like a klinefelter goblin

Looks like the chap in the middle stole the lapels from the guys to his right lmao.

I particularly like this picture because of the variety of the fits. I feel like /tip/ forces you into this cookie cutter hole when actually people wore a huge variety of fits and styles back then. Just look at all those shirts:
>tee shirts
>point collars
>only one button down

>argyle jumper
>wide/thin lapels
>what looks like a plaid weekend/work jacket
>cricket sweater

Not really an inspo pic imo. This is just how slobs used to dress back in the day. It shouldn't come of as a surprise that not everyone should be glorified as a /tip/ fashion icon just because he lived in the right times and went to a uni. Imo this is just the equivalent of yoga/sweatpants, jeans and hoodies uni attire nowadays.

So you're saying people were just way better dressed back in the day and our standards have fallen horribly. I'm not even sure I agree with your assertion that these guys are slobs. Would a slob wear pressed trousers (second from the left and second from the right in the front.)

Call me maximum overtrad, but I don't like when people wear practical pieces despite not doing the activity. Wear a gun patch sweater when and if you shoot only, or if you're such a fanatic for hunting that you basically only own this type of sweater and everybody knows it. Wearing this shit just at random is like wearing breeches and Le Chameau boots to go grocery shopping or to a movie.

(Yes I have unreasonable opinons about boat shoes, why do you ask?)

That may be so, but it's part of gun patching; that's where the stock of the rifle goes so there's a patch to prevent wear.

Personally what I dislike about that sweater is that they used a shiny, fakey-looking morocco for the leather, it looks very unattractive and clashes with the textile to boot.

Pro: Excellent value proposition in most cases, much better results than typical OTR menswear.

Con: Mainly horrible modern cuts; cloth is typically not great. At the point where you're knowledgeable enough to arrange to fix this yourself you most likely have access to significantly better options so in that sense it's a trap.

Synthesis: Suit Supply is good for what they are, but they're less TIP than GQ, with Italian-based styling. It's a great choice if you want to look "smart" but also blend in with normies, e.g. typical 20- or 30-something office workers. You'll be a cut above most of them and most likely match those who are "interested", who are likely to have exactly enough superficial knowledge to also get their shit made at Suit Supply and recognize yours. This type of person will remark on you as well dressed.

Dressing trad is the closest equivalent. Dress a bit carelessly. Nothing exact though, you'll have to LARP it if you want the full Ivy experience. English clothes are the best, historically most Euros who could afford it had a London tailor even if they were Hungarian or some shit.

The silver lining for you is that nobody in plebland can tell the fucking difference between trad, ivy and prep anymore anyway so you can basically do whatever you want as long as you're okay with being seen as an eccentric in the first place.

Solid, but learn to tie your tie better. The knot looks loose and the blade is just an indistinct crumple. It will take you literally ten minutes to learn to dimple a tie properly. I guess you might've been going for a double dimple, but that blade isn't wide enough for that and you'd definitely need to tighten up the knot anyway for it to work.

Dude, chinos, wool trousers, ocbd or other shirts, overcoats, blazers, nice leather derbys and loafers...

What part of that is so distinctly American you feel you can pull it off? Just avoid varsity jackets and those lettered university sweaters and you'll be good. It's not like anyone knows anything about hook vents, 3/2 rolls, or patch pockets anyway. Do you think anyone is ever going to accuse you of LARPING in real life? Pocket squares are not cheap. High-end ones should cost around €50 to €60, such as drakes. I have recently bought a nice yellow chiardi pocket square for €25 on a local shop on sale.
You can find pocket squares for about €30 without discounts on shops such as Massimo Dutti or Suitsupply, but they won’t be as nice.
Do remember that there are 2 kinda of pocket squares: the regular decorative squares, which are made out of silk, wool or similar fine materials; and the ones which are intended for actual use, which are cheaper and almost always white and made out of cotton.
You can try thrifting, but personally, I have never seen good deals on pocket squares on thrift stores, unlike ties and cuff links.

>At the point where you're knowledgeable enough to arrange to fix this yourself you most likely have access to significantly better options so in that sense it's a trap
and... actually pretty much the entire post after that as well. My point was that Suit Supply is great for people who don't want to learn that skill, or who want or need to blend in with office normies rather than stick out as genuinely well-dressed and with a personal style (and thus inevitably in some sense eccentric).

Personally though, I would never buy a suit or jacket online. Not only because it's a crap shoot as to whether the shoulder fit is good and then you'll have to go through the rigmarole of returns or flipping if it's not good, but also because of the pure tactile pleasure of feeling the cloth, trying on the prospective item, discussing it with a knowledgeable seller or ideally maker.

Trousers, sure. Fire away. I can get that shit taken in, let out, hemmed, whatever, no problem. If the cloth's bad quality I can take the loss on the chin, wear the pair until they die, just never buy from that seller again. With a suit it's different.

It depends a lot on what you'll wear the shoes with and how much money you have, but you can't really go wrong with a pair of boots for winter. Meermin has a decent price point to quality, decent selection of styles and their MTO is also boots right now, including a pair made in shell cordovan (better, but more expensive, than calf leather).

More generally, a pair of burgundy/oxblood beefroll penny loafers are casual and pretty versatile; they ought to look smart while not making you feel uncomfortably dressy.

Im a repeat customer (4 shirts 1 suit 4 trousers) so been through a few iterations with some awesome results and some not so great.
One thing id recommend is putting 'unusual' specs (like super big collars, undarted jackets) in the notes section IN ADDITION to selecting it in the Select Your Style. They tend to miss things (pajeet) so better to be super explicit.

As for the shirt collars, i go unlined unfused 4 inch collar length 4 inch spread, although im still experimenting. If you want your collar to have a soft roll these are the option. In my experience even the soft lining is too stiff and theyll just stand up straight when unbuttoned

those fabrics sound nice. I prefer thicker oxfords myself (although, living in brisbane, it's sometimes not very practical and i often rely on lighter oxfords and linens).

how were the luxire BD and broke and bespoke collars? never tried them

why not buy MTM oxfords through Ratio Clothing? They have traditional collar points with the fitzgerald collar selection, and you can specify fully unlined, collar loop, back collar button etc. They're MiUSA, in the same factory that BB (used?) to make their OG button downs.

I've got three of them: blue, white and uni stripes, and I wanna go yellow and pink to complete the collection. I'm from Brisbane as well btw and yeah you can't wear these year-round, but my approach has been to experiment with seasonal fabrics instead of lightweight ocbds.

I do fully intend on going through luxire for trousers, though. Any experience with those luxire-anon? I cant find anywhere that gets all the details right so I figure I'll do it myself.

trousers are pretty great. im not super particular about quality (stitch density, etc.) but it seems pretty nice for the price point, although obv this depends on the fabric you choose.
The trousers, more so than the shirts, have been hit or miss, but when it's a hit, they're damn good.
One thing I learned though: for softer fabrics (linen, worsted wool), consider taking away ~1cm from the seat/thighs etc., and for harder fabrics (sturdy chinos), consider adding ~1cm. These additions/subtractions are relative to the basic 'trial' chino pants, which are a softish chino fabric (although they seem to cycle them around so dunno if it's still the same selection of fabrics).
my first four trousers were the trial chinos, a linen, a worsted (part of the suit), and heavy chinos (that were too fucking small cause i didnt know about the adding ~1cm thing...), all in the 'continental' sorta style: double pleated, big fat waist band with side adjusters.
for my latest pair, i finally got flat front, cuffed chinos with normal belt loops, so might post a pic of them some time

I bought one of those, although on a different colour. The collar itself is bigger irl, but it’s shoulders are not that great and keep getting out of shape when you open a button or two.
They are pretty cool as well. I expected that they would be worse than “regular” cotton shirts, but I find it cooler than them.
The buttons are crap made out of plastic, but that is what is to be expected at the price point.
I find their regular corduroy pants of this season to be very average. They do not drape very well, and are tabby back. Some of their models with a bigger wale are quite pretty, though.
I will check them again on the midseason sales.
