It does, though. I live right next to an university, and go to the "elite" one myself. People in mine clearly dress much better on average. Not everyone is "preppy", but a good 20-30% are and it is acceptable to dress that way.
I do notice that slavshit and german exchange students usually dress like shit in university, so maybe that is your problem.

Pocket squares are not cheap. High-end ones should cost around €50 to €60, such as drakes. I have recently bought a nice yellow chiardi pocket square for €25 on a local shop on sale.
You can find pocket squares for about €30 without discounts on shops such as Massimo Dutti or Suitsupply, but they won’t be as nice.
Do remember that there are 2 kinda of pocket squares: the regular decorative squares, which are made out of silk, wool or similar fine materials; and the ones which are intended for actual use, which are cheaper and almost always white and made out of cotton.
You can try thrifting, but personally, I have never seen good deals on pocket squares on thrift stores, unlike ties and cuff links.

My point was that Suit Supply is great for people who don't want to learn that skill, or who want or need to blend in with office normies rather than stick out as genuinely well-dressed and with a personal style (and thus inevitably in some sense eccentric).

Personally though, I would never buy a suit or jacket online. Not only because it's a crap shoot as to whether the shoulder fit is good and then you'll have to go through the rigmarole of returns or flipping if it's not good, but also because of the pure tactile pleasure of feeling the cloth, trying on the prospective item, discussing it with a knowledgeable seller or ideally maker.

Trousers, sure. Fire away. I can get that shit taken in, let out, hemmed, whatever, no problem. If the cloth's bad quality I can take the loss on the chin, wear the pair until they die, just never buy from that seller again. With a suit it's different.

It depends a lot on what you'll wear the shoes with and how much money you have, but you can't really go wrong with a pair of boots for winter. Meermin has a decent price point to quality, decent selection of styles and their MTO is also boots right now, including a pair made in shell cordovan (better, but more expensive, than calf leather).

More generally, a pair of burgundy/oxblood beefroll penny loafers are casual and pretty versatile; they ought to look smart while not making you feel uncomfortably dressy.

Im a repeat customer (4 shirts 1 suit 4 trousers) so been through a few iterations with some awesome results and some not so great.
One thing id recommend is putting 'unusual' specs (like super big collars, undarted jackets) in the notes section IN ADDITION to selecting it in the Select Your Style. They tend to miss things (pajeet) so better to be super explicit.

As for the shirt collars, i go unlined unfused 4 inch collar length 4 inch spread, although im still experimenting. If you want your collar to have a soft roll these are the option. In my experience even the soft lining is too stiff and theyll just stand up straight when unbuttoned

those fabrics sound nice. I prefer thicker oxfords myself (although, living in brisbane, it's sometimes not very practical and i often rely on lighter oxfords and linens).

why not buy MTM oxfords through Ratio Clothing? They have traditional collar points with the fitzgerald collar selection, and you can specify fully unlined, collar loop, back collar button etc. They're MiUSA, in the same factory that BB (used?) to make their OG button downs.

I've got three of them: blue, white and uni stripes, and I wanna go yellow and pink to complete the collection. I'm from Brisbane as well btw and yeah you can't wear these year-round, but my approach has been to experiment with seasonal fabrics instead of lightweight ocbds.

I do fully intend on going through luxire for trousers, though. Any experience with those luxire-anon? I cant find anywhere that gets all the details right so I figure I'll do it myself.

trousers are pretty great. im not super particular about quality (stitch density, etc.) but it seems pretty nice for the price point, although obv this depends on the fabric you choose.
The trousers, more so than the shirts, have been hit or miss, but when it's a hit, they're damn good.
One thing I learned though: for softer fabrics (linen, worsted wool), consider taking away ~1cm from the seat/thighs etc., and for harder fabrics (sturdy chinos), consider adding ~1cm. These additions/subtractions are relative to the basic 'trial' chino pants, which are a softish chino fabric (although they seem to cycle them around so dunno if it's still the same selection of fabrics).
my first four trousers were the trial chinos, a linen, a worsted (part of the suit), and heavy chinos (that were too fucking small cause i didnt know about the adding ~1cm thing...), all in the 'continental' sorta style: double pleated, big fat waist band with side adjusters.
for my latest pair, i finally got flat front, cuffed chinos with normal belt loops, so might post a pic of them some time

I bought one of those, although on a different colour. The collar itself is bigger irl, but it’s shoulders are not that great and keep getting out of shape when you open a button or two.
They are pretty cool as well. I expected that they would be worse than “regular” cotton shirts, but I find it cooler than them.
The buttons are crap made out of plastic, but that is what is to be expected at the price point.
I find their regular corduroy pants of this season to be very average. They do not drape very well, and are tabby back. Some of their models with a bigger wale are quite pretty, though.
I will check them again on the midseason sales.
