I dress like this, been listening to black metal since I was like 12 (I'm 21 now). Unfortunately, the people telling you fashion and metal don't mix are correct. At least fashion in the context that you dress along the guidelines of what genuinely looks good. The elements are still there but hes gone down the country path that was away from the glam.

And to be honest, glam doesnt sell unless its youre in the Scandanavian countries. Theres a Finnish band called Santa Cruz who have some new wave of glam elements. One of their videos the singer looks like a young vince neil.

I dress preppy usually, but I still dress metal when attending concerts, just blue jeans (Levi's 501s or Cowboy cut Wranglers), black leather cowboy boots and a metal t shirt. I dont wear my patch vest because it looks LARPy, especially with my short hair, but I will never get rid of it, simply because of sentimental value.
