What do you mean by "mid tier"? There are $3k Tudors that are powered by the same ETA 2824 that can be had in $300 entry level watches. There really isn't much value add in mid tier vs entry level. Better to start with a cheap watch and then go to Rolex/Omega tier after that.

Quartz now can reach 1 second per year level with the new Citizen movement. Or, if you want something more affordable, 5 seconds a year with the Longines VHP for ~$700.

But mechanical is beautiful in its own right. You have a tiny machine on your wrist, powered by a spring and gears, with 200+ parts and a balance wheel that oscillates anywhere from 18k to 36k times an hour. You can run with it, swim with it, climb mountains with it, and the best will only be off by 2-3 seconds per day, which is pretty incredible. If you take care of it it'll last for generations, if not forever, while quartz is basically disposable.

hey anon, i had the same kind of situation. there's a quote that helped me since
"you've got to stop letting people know more than they need to know"
rolex sub is hard. because people who do know what it is, will probably be jelly and won't tell you its nice. others will think it's a replica. i had a couple replica subs and a franken sub. but at the end of the day I knew it wasn't real. So I always sold them
good thing about reps, they sell FAST and keep most of their value. way easier to flip.

I will get a sports rolex once my portfolio reaches a certain amount. I typically buy watches to reward myself for accomplishments in my career. the only watches ive held onto were puchased at milestones.
The reps have all been just to try it out. they held no significance so they never stayed with me longer than a couple months.

I just told some colleagues about a watch I was gonna buy on a business trip. Almost exact same dialogue
>"did you get your watch"
>"oh you're wearing it"
>"what kind is it?" (normies know nothing about watches)

get a watch for yourself only. but congrats on your rolex. did you know that on your model, the indicies and hands are made out of white gold?
My favorite part of a sub is how the scallops dance in the light. if you angle it properly and twist your wrist (pouring motion) the scallops will ignite from middle to ends. it looks better on 18k gold bezels but ss is still a sight. cheers

Googled a bit:

"It all depends on how well the work is done...

The waterproofing of the watch comes from the fit of the parts together and from using appropriate gaskets to seal all the joints - so when replacing the crystal for example, you will need to make sure that you have the correct gasket and have everything assembled correctly.

It is also possible to test the water resistance of a watch - so if you are worried about the water resistance you can get it checked to prove it will be up to the appropriate standard."

Okay, so there are gaskets to consider. It's not just very small tolerances. Not sure I want to risk it, since I take it diving. But a sloped bezel and domed crystal would make it look so much better...

I love it too but it's quite significantly more expensive. Maybe I should wait longer until they drop a bit.
I got the pristine one in >>14658968 for less than £2k which is great.

You got a really good deal, how much did you sell it for?

Think maybe £50 more than I paid for it. Since then they've gone up in price for some reason... Speedmasters also seem to be rising.

The logo suits the one on the left a lot more given the contemporary font.
I like that Christopher Ward is getting more attention on /wt/. It's a really good brand and would sell a lot more watches if they listened to every single comment on every youtube review and lose that fucking logo.

It's great how they do 38, 40 and 42mm options. What other watch brand does that??

Not everyone who likes watches needs to be flippantly spending months of earned income on them in a single purchase. There are plenty of "real watches" that serve their purpose for well under $3000

>lose that fucking logo.

At this point you've got to wonder what they are doing. Are they sticking with it because they refuse to admit they fucked up or is there a logo change coming up

I've posted on many of their Instagram and FB posts that they should do a limited edition version of a few watches minus the logo just to see how well they sell. There are a few watches without their logo at this point in fairness.

Yea I guess they just neded to have both the Christopher Ward logo and the twin flag logo for a while so that people know whose logo it is.

I think everyone should get a g shock, just because having the convenience of a watch that will never break and is always accurate is a good tool to have. But if your getting on, get a square one. Don't be a fag and get some giant round rubber thing with gold accents those are gay af
