I saw this really cool watch a few days ago, but I didnt get the chance to ask the owner which brand it was.

Basically it had a black and white picture of a guy with a beard steering a ship wheel on the face, pic related. The bezel was kinda "jagged", and the case and bracelet were stainless steel. Quartz movement.

fashion watches like HUGO BOSS and Burberry are so much better than CASIO and SEIKO

the point of the watch is for fashion. the point of fashion is for attracting women.

There is even an argument Michael Kors and Hugo Boss are better than technologically superior brands like Maurice LaCroix, Zenith, Garrick Corum

This is why a replica Cartier Santos is THE ULTIMATE Chad watch

- admired by women, fashion brand
- respected by watch fans (its the oldest sports watch and pilot watch, great history)
- nobody expects it to be fake as its very well finished
- if you wear a genuine Rolex many will assume its fake. If you wear a highly quality fake Cartier actually more people will believe its real
- it looks fantastic, has a Royal Oak tier bracelet

Is a Cartier Roadster a valid everyday watch alternative to the usual datejusts, aquaterras, grandseikos? Date, 100m wr... and a unique design.

Also, Cartier bracelets and cases are so easy to tinker with and well done... everything is held by simple screws, including bracelet links.

Kind of simple Top grade ETA tho (used to be enough for Tudors, Tags etc...), and again, so easy and convenient for service...

I'm looking to buy a Seiko Grand Quartz because they look sick and I don't like having to dig my phone out of my pocket to tell time.

- I'm guessing worrying about fakes isn't a factor for a $150 quartz watch, but should I be concerned with condition? Are there any phrases I should look out for in descriptions? Any equivalent of "car ran when I parked it"?

- Is there a good place to see all the models? I'm looking for the 4840 model (pic related) I think, but I might prefer a white face and it'd be nice to get a comparison.

You can find some new with the eta 2804-2 handwind, which is a more time tested older version of the newer hamilton movements, lower power reserve, higher beats per second, accuracy about the same, seems like when the new Hamilton movements are serviced they just throw it out and drop in a new one, while 2804-2's will be traditionally serviced and regulated (I think)

My core problems with the 38mm hamiltons is the very long lugs, they are often worn by people with wrists too small for that and they get uncomfortable overhang, plus, the general look is awful on a strap unless you use a nato style strap pic related that goes under the watch

Nice photo, I own the 013 too. The only issue I've taken with mine is what I assume to be the drying of lubricant in the bezel, leaving it nearly impossible to turn. I ended up having to remove the bezel and use a light coat of dive grade silicone lubricant on the grooves, after that it worked like a charm and has continued to do so to this day. It was a big buy when I first got it but since I've amassed a couple luxury pieces I've used it more as my watch when I'm actually on a dive or working in the labs to prevent anything too expensive getting exposed to corrosive substances, it works like a champ and I love it.

I know. I wish watch threads were more positive, you get the feeling people hate every watch. Just general elitism in the thread, partially serious and partially for the meme. Seiko 5 is generally disliked in this thread because of its status as an affordable seiko watch. I don't mind it, although I would encourage most people to save their money and spend it on at least a regular seiko instead, as they don't present much other than a disposable watch that you can own cheaply without worries. That would be my main complaint with the more affordable japanese watches anyways (although I own those too), that they cost more to get serviced than they do to replace entirely.

Unpopular opinion: the apple watch and fitbit type shit can exist in the same space as actual watchmaking brands without it being a big deal. They have different purposes, different styles, and most importantly, one is a piece of technology, which becomes outdated, obsolete, and replaced as quickly as the phone it pairs to. While the other has been obsolete for decades, but sticks around because it offers the kind of soul, x factor, artistry, that a piece of technology won't. It's like a balance between head and heart, and most people do not think with their head alone.

Junghans Max Bill isn't bad, the actual bauhaus credentials of the designer is nice and I like the multiple movement options including the chronoscope. I own a much funkier and weirder Junghans Bionic, a mega obscure solar watch that is ugly as shit, but I like it because of it. I'm currently sourcing a bezel for it but it's hard to find literally anything about it. Junghans makes solid watches, good introduction into german watches, if you get the max bill I reccomend you go for the mechanical.

Citizen Eco Drives aren't bad either, a friend of mine owns a flieger style avion and it's a nice watch. Definitely not for the smaller wristed out there, but if you can rock it, it'll look the business.

Grand Seikos are, for the most part, respected here. I have never owned one, but it's impossible to discredit them for their innovations like the 9F movement

They just arent on the market yet.

For a decent looking smart watch with 25 minute timer that vibrates without alarm: I use an Honor Magic watch. Its small enough to not look bad on the wrist (unlike all the 44mm wide, 15mm thick smartwatches). And the heart rate and sleep tracking is absolutely solid. The screen looks amazing too. And just £100, its better than a lot of £400 smart watches

So its really really functional but its still not fashionable.
