This is so utterly basic though, I can't imagine someone who doesn't know how to dress looking at this and feeling in any way inspired to dress better

If it's aimed at someone with no knowledge, you ought to include relevant details and things to look for, as well as common places to buy such things and the various prices different levels of quality would have

For example:
"Chinos - best in cream or khaki - navy or white are also acceptable

Only buy in 100% cotton (look inside the tags or read the product description; if it says 'stretch' or 'lycra', or 'tech', then it's not trad and stay away). You want a regular fit (regardless of body type) with a flat front (that means no pleats), and you want to cuff them just about level with the top of your shoes. Recommended brands: Ralph Lauren (expensive), Orvis (mid-expensive, buy the 'Ultimate Chino'), Lands End (cheap), and many other places

Wear them in exactly the same way you used to wear jeans"

The chart does not give buying recommendations. A cheap white shirt will make you look like a clown quickly. Here are my pet peeves:

Not a fan of the colours. Since sweater give off a comfier vibe, you'd want to represent that in the colours.

don't own any, i find them memey. A pair of linen pants, or a linen suit will fare you much better; but my focus is on the classic wardrobe

Very memey when you can simply wear your favourite linen shirt and roll up the sleeves. Combined with a tie, you always look dapper
>Jackets
No experience here since my suits count for jackets most of the time

Sorry, hideous. Loafers and the likes are at the very far end of a men's wardrobe. You want a basic wardrobe. That consists of a black captoe oxford for almost every occasion and a dark brown (captoe) derby. The latter is more forgiving in search of the proper shoe size. You can build from there.
>Socks
Many don't want to spend absurd amounts of money on this when they can get 12pairs of 3$. However, when we're discussing a basic wardrobe, you should hint the reader at possibly buying socks at calf length and from better fabrics. With a suit, you don't want people to see your leg hair. That rule carries over to the casual scene in a classic menswear setting.

Drop the braided meme. With above shoes, you ideally want to have a matching belt. The cheapest worthwhile belt will cost you >50$. Thanks for not including jeans. Those are workwear. Include tee undershirts for around the year, every day. They work wonders against sweaty armpits etc.

Seems like it. At high temps, the tie can be loosened a little, the first button unbuttoned. Proper dealing with a lot of companies. Rolling up the sleeves right past the elbow is enough. Very good breathability, sweat/air circulation. Shirt's to be tucked in. Mandatory. Oughta add various non-icky ties and a white linen pocket square to the basic wardrobe. Also, suits. Because.

I'd say that in a basic wardrobe, you would consider other shoes first. As said, the more versatile ones come first. You can wear the black oxfords to a wedding, to a funeral, to work, here and there. You can equally wear your dark brown shoes to work and to more casual settings. Loafers are inherently casual and only really be worn in summer and warmer days. Even before buying loafers, you could consider buying other occasional shoes (as in plain toe oxfords, for more formality) or shoes with brogueing. Just shoes that you can wear around the year. You will then find that different seasons compliment different shoes and go from there. Again, it's from a practicability standpoint. You wouldn't buy a dapper pocket square before a regular white linen, right? Then again, I like loafers and tassel loafers especially. But I wouldn't buy them as my first shoe.

The basic wardrobe was obviously for preppy/ivy style, not a generic one. Because I could have added some FILA sneakers or joggerpants. Penny loafers can work at more formal events (business-casual level) and can also be worn all year. In summer with thin or no show socks and in winter with thicker socks, they are really versatile

It's when I grew out of tshirt and jeans and built a sophisticated wardrobe. Really dig the look of them. A very summery shoe. Though they are very odd in black. Formal colour on an informal shoe? I still wear tshirts in summer as substitute for polo shirts (maybe 3 days a week), all are horizontal stripes or plain color. And I use sneakers for clubbing or some parties (using now brogues as well for this task).

I only had 2-3 years at around 14-16 when I was wearing "terrible stuff" (more sneakers, sweatshirts, black colour, jeans everyday...), but even then the only jacket I wore was a wax jacket and still used many shirts.

I've worn sperry's almost my whole life. Just get them wet like you would boating. Annapolis brackish water always did the trick in 1 summer.

Really depends on the brand and even then they do all sorts of sneaky shit like make 90% of it in Asia and then the buttons get stitched in America so they can put MADE IN USA without lying on it. Big old brands like Ralph Lauren are probably sweat shop tier for sure. There is probably not a whole lot in a given mall that isn't at least partly assembled in Asia. You gotta pay that extra buck to not have it made by slaves and it kinda ties in with all this anyway. I recently had a couple of suits made by a local tailor for instance. He likes what he does and he isn't in a sweatshop. I guess buy local and buy to keep is the mantra.

Many of the smaller brands are made domestically (whether US or Europe) so short answer is big brands are probably sweated goods. Smaller more boutique operations are gonna be more expensive but you're getting better quality and guilt free stuff. Thats the trade off and its true no matter the style

Side note: Should also add I work in manufacturing and my company partially operates out of asia. Ive seen the factories in SE Asia and they're air conditioned, get free lunches, western style working hours and there is even a wheelchair ramp so landmine victims can have jobs too. So not every factory in asia is a nightmare operation. But as a rule I don't like to risk it so I buy local as much as possible

Part of the prep ethos is to buy sustainably (preferably hand me downs). When you start to focus on quality you also tend to buy more ethically as your clothes are not made by Asian sweatshops. I buy blazers and sports coats vintage (from Etsy and eBay) trousers from a few companies that mostly make them in Portugal and Romania, shirts made in the UK (Drake's) or Portugal (shirtonomy), all my shoes are made in England and occasionally my ties and socks are as well. Some guys are absolutely playing dress ups but I came across these threads by accident and went what the fuck i already dress like this. So I stuck around cause apparently what I considered "clothes" was some kind of style. I've refined what I wear since and been a bit more conscious about some choices but I just appreciate a look that you can wear to a bar, to see grandma to go shopping, to play a sport all in one etc. Its the opposite of being self conscious its just the everyday fit for all occasions. The fun of traditional menswear to me is almost game-like frugality, trying to have as much versatility and as little redundancy as possible. Ideally your hobbies should be boating/rowing/fishing/woodworking/some other manly craft. I'd say grand strategy titles like EU4 or Hearts of Iron would be trad videogames to play.
