Not anymore. I don’t know if you’ve been to a boutique the last few seasons but most of their shoes now look like shit. The suede is still okay but the rest are not. Their plain Chelsea Wyatts are ok, the rest use really bad feeling leather. I heard they moved production a few years ago. I wouldn’t buy boots from them anymore. This is coming from someone who has pretty much only bought SLP since ~2014.

The construction and fabrics they use have been going down hill year by year. I've never worn their boots, so I have no opinion there. I’m aware. They’ve had rampant QC issues since 2014 when I assume their overlords stepped in and changes started being made on sizing and cuts. Still if you can point me to where I can buy superior MIJ skinny jeans or leather jackets I would be grateful. DH has been going through growing pains for several years now and every other manufacturer of leather jackets does a terrible job both with design and fit. I have literally never seen a leather jacket I have wanted other than from Saint Laurent (or now Celine, but it is a carbon copy). People keep saying you can find better quality leather jackets than SLP but they always use either shit leather or they fit like your dad’s Schott. I would love for you to prove me wrong so I can avoid spending $5k on a jacket.

Just dropped by the Cèline boutique in my city. Unfortunately they didn’t have menswear but did have a number of shoes. I’ll give my brief thoughts on quality:
>boots
Good quality leather, better than current SLP. Not mind blowing and I wasn’t a fan of the designs they had in store. Still some very high heels for the more adventurous. Lots of buckles and zippers which I’m not that interested in.
>loafers
Good quality. Had one regular loafer and one in snake skin. I don’t buy loafers from SLP or Celine so can’t comment much.
>Sneakers
Absolute shit. Trash, plastic like leather. Overpriced and I hate the designs (only had high tops in store). Fashion victim core. Just as bad as current SLP sneakers.

Unfortunately my local boutique only had a limited time capsule for menswear and aren’t planning on getting more in. Contemplating just blind ordering a pair of skinny jeans and seeing what I think, though I’m not thrilled at spending $800 on jeans I have never seen in person. Does anyone here actually have any Celine yet? Any impressions? People over at Styleforum seem to think jeans are ok, outerwear is good, shoes are hit or miss, and pretty much everything else is not good.

>> No.14381080

>>14381071
Should mention I’m going to the SLP boutique later today. I’ve become quite disenfranchised with the brand but have heard they reverted back to Hedi cuts on their denim. I’ll go look and see in person but not holding out much hope considering the nosedive in quality while prices rise ever higher.

>> No.14381335

>>14381080
Verdict: bad. Just came back from SLP. MIJ jeans are now extremely scarce for some reason. Guessing their margins aren’t good enough even though they’re $900. Tried on a few different pairs of D02s. The cut is still fucked. I’m 6ft1 and around 150lbs, wear sz. 30/34. They made the leg opening smaller which is good, but there is a bunch of excess fabric in the calf area. This was across different pairs of D02s both raw and washed. I don’t have weird legs, the same size D02s from 2013 onward fit me more or less perfectly.

For leathers they only had a vanilla L01. Leather felt good and buttery. Way less heavy than previous iterations but maybe they made it lighter for SS - didn’t bother looking at them last fall. Shirts and t-shirts are still a joke price wise....they went from silk to viscose to cotton while maintaining the prices so you’re paying $1k for a plain cotton shirt or $500 for a cotton tee. Collared shirts feel flimsy, many are very transparent. They continue to try and cash in on hype with obnoxious Teddy designs, the one they had in my boutique was bright red, too cropped for anyone over 6ft, and with scratchy wool.

Boots are still middling. Handled some plain harness Wyatts and the leather surprised me with how good it was...then I looked at the stonewashed or distressed harness boots, which are utter shite. Sneakers still terrible. Suede offerings are not bad. Better than a few seasons ago for sure.

Overall I’m not impressed...I’ve been a die hard SLP fan since Hedi took the reigns and was a Dior fan before that. I wouldn’t buy any of this stuff for anywhere near retail...50% off I would maybe consider some MIJ jeans or a flannel if I really liked the design. If I wanted a pair of harness boots I’d consider buying them but already have Chelsea’s and jodhpurs and they’re just not worth the $1k for what are becoming meme shoes. Hoping Hedi will impress at Celine, the hype around SLP is getting very tiring for me.

I honestly wish I knew. The SAs didn’t seem to know what was going on with the menswear either. It’s just utterly bizarre to me they would go through the hassle of stocking it for a limited time then getting rid of it. That is the only Celine boutique for 300 miles. If they were going for hype I think they failed, everyone is just baffled. None of the pieces I’ve seen online are must have for me. I’m hoping they’ll get into the swing of things over the next few years...I know Hedi is doing a lot of work behind the scenes. I’ll probably go ahead and blind buy something since SLP is still underwhelming and post my impressions here.

I got into it just because my friend owned a store and she wanted me to do some modeling for their lookbook. So local designers/boutiques still need models, if they make their own stuff. You idiots don't understand nor are you the ideal customer for a ahigh end designer boutique. SLP is the brand, that's all that matters. You are buying the brand, not the overly esoteric "quality control" shit you are babbling and whining about.

You buy Yves Saint LAurent, you are getting the best, of the best, and the also the best BRAND. That you can get. No other brand has as much power and appeal.

I don't buy SLP for the quality, I buy it for the brand recognition. The quality is what it is, it's always great, no matter what twinkle toe is the creative director.

>you are getting the best, of the best, and also the best BRAND
You aren’t, though. That might have been true in AW13. There are countless brands that use higher quality materials. Dior, Hermès, even Gucci. Coincidentally, (or not) those brand names have just as much if not more cachet (I would argue more), since you seem to only care about brand name and recognition.
>the quality is what it is, it’s always great
It isn’t, though. I wouldn’t pay $200 for their plastic looking and feeling sneakers much less the $600 they’re asking. I’ve already criticized the quality of the latest season in this thread at length. I’ve handled the clothes in person and I have been an ardent SLP customer since 2013.

I’d say there is a 99% chance you are an underaged hypebeast who learned about the brand a year or two ago and now is a relentless dickrider and you are one of the people contributing to the downfall of the house by buying up all this stupid, ugly, overpriced shit plastered with gaudy logos that Vaccarello keeps churning out season after season.

It’s not really his fault. He’s a womenswear designer and has done good work on that front at Saint Laurent. Menswear was always going to be on the back burner when he stepped in. He was expected to continue what Hedi Slimane started for the menswear, obviously an unenviable position. Now they’re cashing in on the hype. Logos everywhere - tees, hoodies, literally spelled out on sneakers, you name it.

Whereas Hedi sold classic designs with solid construction and impeccable fits, Vaccarello has been forced to sell imitations of those things while his overlords at Kering urge him to cut costs to drive up margins. This leads to things like the often mocked $500 white tee shirts, or a 100% cotton hoodie that costs $900 with the words “Saint Laurent” on the front. But most people don’t know or care about any of this. They just want to be seen wearing Saint Laurent. See this guy:

Why is he always shitting on Hedi's work but still tries to dress like a SLP or Celine runaway model?

Marco "Victim of the meme" Clo

Admin of the SLP facebook group, he kicks out anyone who disagrees with him whenever he goes on a rant about how Hedi is a hack.

This is all understandable but it's hilarious when after all the shit he talks about Hedi he tries to dress like that

Thats up to Kering and what they want from vaccarello. For instance, when michelle took over gucci, they gave him carte blanche. Kering owns both Gucci and SLP fyi. They also own Balengicaga, so the truth is, each brand is just another niche brand. You cant have all 3 of them, trying to be "rocker chic" that hedi pioneered in ysl, each one needs to be a bit different since their profits all go to the same place any way

People can’t get enough of the 3 passant and western belts. Quality wise worth the money? No way. Design wise? Well, people buy them.

Balmain has a very similar belt, but it costs even more at $500

>> No.14390512

>>14389241
you have it backwards, quality qise you will not find many better made belts. Design wise, you can get way better designs for less money from lesser known indepnedent leather brands. SLP is actually emprisoned by its own image, they have to keep making the same designs because those were the ones successful in the past. But obviously, that will die also. Jus tlike YSL was irrelvant as a brand before hedi took over, they have the possiblity of becoming irrelevant again, unless they do something different. All of their Wyatt line is become completely played out at this point. People keep focus on that individual line, they have tons other lines of booots, Lukas, Montaigne, Dakota, Miles, Finn

Design is subjective but I bought some random belt from them last season and was not impressed with the quality. It’s fine overall but not good for the price. Unfortunately it’s getting harder to find a belt from them that doesn’t have a gaudy YSL logo for a buckle or something.

Also I agree with you about SLP suffering under their own success but Vaccarello is probably not the person to save the menswear. Maybe he is, but I and many other previous fans of the house haven’t seen much we liked the last few years. I really want to like his SLP but boy does he make a lot of stupid, ostentatious shit.
