The thing with Viberg is the 2030 last is iconic and one of the most sought after boots for that reason. You're basically paying for the shape of the boot rather than the boot itself. The kinda people who buy the Viberg service boot know this and don't have a problem with it.
Crockett and Jones are amazing quality stuff but they're a very British style. After a certain price it comes down to what kind of aesthetic you're looking for.

Managed to order some Wolverine 1000 Mile Evans in black for a pretty cheap price.

How do they fit compared to Iron Rangers? I ordered a size down to 13D but always find Iron Rangers in 13D to be too narrow in the toe box. Are Wolverine slightly wider?

Maybe the chromexcel will stretch anyway

Need? No. They are highly recommended though. When spending hundreds of dollars on something as hard-wearing as boots you want to maintain them for as long as possible and shoe trees will carry them a few extra years. You will notice it in the long run.

>> No.14378045

>>14378011
What leather did you choose? Is it the same one as the pic?
Shoe trees are a good idea no matter what, bit something like CXL especially needs it as it's prone to creasing. Creasing means cracking eventually, weather it's 2 years or 20 years down the line, and cracking means your boots see finished. Trees prevent that. Also trees absorb moisture, which is one of the biggest killers of leather, especially high quality ones with all leather insoles. If you're not gonna get trees then make sure you don't wear them multiple days in a row so the inside can fully dry.
But really though, you just spent 400-450 on a pair of boots. Are you really not going to spend 20 more for something that can potentially extended their life for a decade? Boots like that are an investment so take care of them. Trees are cheap.

Waxed flesh is still leather and still needs care. Eventually the wax will rub off and it becomes like worn roughout which can crack.
It's the inside that the trees really help as the insole is leather. You don't want the inside breaking down from sweaty feet

Are you familiar with a shoe last? Shoes and boots can fit differently despite being the same size because they're made on different lasts. Some have toes that turn up, some are narrow, some are very wide, they all play a part on the fit of the boot despite all being the same size.
Even between the same last things can fit differently. I have a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers and Blacksmiths, both made from Red Wing's 8 last. The Blacksmiths are unwearable and I'm going to sell them as they're too tight in the toes but the IRs fit perfect. They're both made from the 8 last.
Size means fuck all in the boot world as most brands size large and you need to adjust as well as differences in last shapes.

Is that a genuine enough answer for you? The last doesn't fit your feet probably, or you went with your true to size sizing and didn't take into consideration that brands size differently.

Thanks this was more in-depth. The Austrian meme boots I assumed were fine since my feet could slip in but I may have to contact the company then because of this.

I recall asking Kommando Store how the sizing works and they said it should be the same as my docs size and my foot size in docs (and red wing Mocs) is a size down from my usual sneaker size .

So I bought the highest size of boots here (https://forcesuniformandkit.co.uk/collections/combat-boots-army-boots/products/austrian-lightweight-combat-boots?variant=6067775668256)) I’m usually a UK 13/US 14 and to add more reasoning people said these run a tad bit big so I didn’t think I needed to worry.

fuck this sucks I really was happy about my first boot purchase, no I need to find a brand/model that does my size and won’t murder my toes or Atleast an extra size up.

Any recommendations if you know any? Also thanks a lot anon I appreciate itn

Yes I've had this problem. Boy I've had this fucking problem. It's the reason why I've got a few thousand's worth of boots and shoes that don't fit me despite "fitting me".
This guy >>14379787 has already talked about lasts. Thing is, other parts of a shoe or boot can stretch with wear, at least one width. But the toebox? Not so much.
You could take them to a cobbler or failing that one of those mrfixits at a mall where they cut keys and do shoes and shit, dunno if they have those where you are. They might be able to stretch things a little. Don't count on much. Toe boxes on virtually all footwear these days on all mass production footwear (including small workshops that technically aren't as "mass" as others like say, viberg and the like) are all, with one known exception, stiffened with a plastic substance called cleastic. It's shaped through heat, and that's really the only way to change their shape. It's why it's good as it holds its shape throughout. Though it is supposed to be a cost cutting measure as this stuff is, over time, supposed to crumble and crack due to sweat and shit build up. It's why the traditional bespoke shoe makers like cleverly, foster & sons, john lobb (st.james), rudolf scheer & söhne et al., all use leather instead. Doing it this way is costly, hence why mass makers don't do it.

Leather toe and heel stiffeners. The only non-bespoke maker that bother to do it this way are vass of budapest. For everyone else (including, quite disappointingly I might add, edward green and john lobb paris) it's this celastic type shit for toe stiffening. Leather shapes better to foot.

If you find that you've got multiple pairs of costly boots and you don't trust the tards running the mrfixit stretch-o-matics wherever the hell you are to attempt to ease somewhat the pinch in the toe box, you can like me buy an aluminium toebox stretcher at no small cost from the US.

I got the same ones, even the same size.

I like mine 10x better than the red wings. Ignore the haters. My red wings took weeks to break in a gave me blisters the whole time. they still don't even feel that great. I know hipsters like to pretend that "you have to suffer for good boots" but if you're not a neet and you actually have to work a job and leave the house, I can't have my feet covered in blisters for weeks at a time.

Anyways, my wolverines look slick and feel 10x better. Most normies can't tell the difference between a viberg, iron rangers, or wolverines anyways

What sleeker silhouette chelseas (SLP look with low blocks) can actually hold up to a bit of abuse like motorbike riding, clubs, etc.? I'm very hard on shoes so would rather spend more for a good quality boot that can be repaired/re-soled than for a brand name. Was considering RM Williams since I'm in Australia and can get them relatively cheap but I've heard mixed reports on their durability in recent years.

UK 13 / US 14 here. I ended up ordering custom Whites. Most size 13 shoes are too narrow for me (Red Wings in D width for example) so I ended up ordering Whites in 13EE; they haven't arrived yet though but they should be good.

If you're in the UK, Loake make shoes in size 13F and 13G which I like. Haven't managed to get the perfect size yet (pretty sure I'm a 12.5 in Loake Bedale).

Dr Martens are too narrow on my left foot.

I've probably tried on about 20 different pairs of boots as of now which is why I ended up going custom.

What exactly is the difference between the Red Wing Iron Rangers, Merchants and Beckman? I want to get one of those 3 in black and wear it all-year round. Also, do I need to watch out for anything when purchasing a shoe tree?

>> No.14386602

>>14386575
They're all made on the same last. That means the fit and feel should be the same. The differences lie in different leathers and small things.
The Iron Rangers have a cap toe and are taller, they're made of a very rugged oil tanned leather.
The merchants have an unstructured toe so it doesn't have the bump toe many people don't like. It's made of a similar leather to the IRs, the harness leather. They have no cap toe.
The Beckmans are very similar to the IRs but have a different leather. Same shape and toe. The featherstone leather is one of the highest tiers RW offers. They have no cap toe.
The Blacksmiths are very similar to the Beckmans but have a different sole and leather. They also have no cap toe.
All have different soles and it's personal preference as to which is better.
