>mid-level furniture

There is no mid-level in furniture.
You are buying unique stuff which costs a lot due to low amount of items made or you are buying cheap mass produced Ikea tier shit.
Used luxury furniture could take that niche in between but it rarely an option since transport costs a lot and you could rely only on stuff from shops around you.
Not even mention fakes.

You decide for yourself are you ready for high end furniture at this point or just stick to cheap stuff.

Fuck, I want some of those.
But it's real hard to find some that I'd actually want to read. The nice, big ones tend to be textbooks or something, and in most cases there's no use for a 100yo textbook.
And buying books just to show off with no intention of reading them is just lame.

it's been a while since i was interested in antiques, but i sold them for a while. about two years. mid 1980s
i'd buy stuff at auctions, flea markets, yard sales and occasionally find stuff in abandoned houses. clean the pieces up a bit and resell them, usually at 100% profit.
and, by cleaning up, i mean generally removing the ruined finish and just wiping them down with linseed oil.
amatuer action, i know, but the stuff would always sell
sometimes i would just literally clean the stuff and it would be gone within a few days.
i sold a lot of stuff at an auction in Willimantic CT that was run by a guy named Ernie.

Very nice. Usually that's all it takes, but I have access to a shop and I can essentially repair and finish for free and make a huge profit. I go to an auction house in Athens, AL often, but most of my great pieces are found when I'm at someone's house doing an estimate.

Current room looks exactly like pic related (same dimensions also) and I fucking hate it. There's also carpet on the floor and it absorbs smells which makes me hate it even more. Any idea of how I can improve it?I'm thinking of getting rid of every single piece of furniture and buying minimalist japanese style stuff but I can't seem to find any inspo apart from buying futons. I need room for LOTS of clothes, two beds and a PC with two screens, any idea of how to make my room look simple yet comfy with a japanese pragmatic vibe?

Rise the room 30-40cm and hid all the storage space in the floor
Also, folding furniture

That's unironically an excellent idea

That's a neat idea, but I'd worry about the floor door slamming closed while sleeping.

Personally I think it depends on where you live. I live in the middle of bumfuck, New England so the only options are boomer furniture outlets that sell those sets, or IKEA. So therefore online is usually a good option
I recommend Article, Hay, CB2, and West Elm. Urban Outfitters has nice rugs, pillows and other accessories and decor, but I wouldn't trust a lot of their furniture due to a lot of bad reviews I've read
IKEA is okay for some things, I like their dining furniture personally
