How to dress like a leftist college student?
I'm used to preppy style since high school but now I want to be more like all the other philosophy students in my uni.

There is only one leftist college student you should dress like. The 1972 Lacan situationist.

>> No.14291439 [DELETED]

Since 90% of people in college are left wing and the remainder are a bunch of incels studying STEM, just go to one and look around you. It's often just a mixture of mallcore and vintage.

Debord is obscure and inaccessible, and you probably shouldn't start with situationism. Lacan is also very complex but I can recommend you some readings on the topic. Bruce Fink in particular has some great introductions to Lacan that taught me everything.
Read the following in order:
A Clinical Introduction to Lacanian Psychoanalysis: Theory and Technique
Fundamentals of Psychoanalytic Technique: A Lacanian Approach for Practitioners
The Lacanian Subject: Between Language and Jouissance

the thing thinks my post is spam so I'll post this in two parts

If you want to learn Debord, read Marx, but more specifically, read Das Kapital, which is basically a description of how things work on an economic level and doesn't really make any political claims. The Communist Manifesto is a propaganda piece written during a time of social unrest and conveys nothing of Marx's actual thought, so you shouldn't even bother with it and I'm ashamed that for acknowledging it's existence. There's a manga version of it which condenses everything really easily, going over all the main concepts. How are you gonna understand the hard shit if you don't even have the basics down?

If you want to look into philosophy generally, I suggest reading some introductory guide like Bertrand Russel's -A History of Western Philosophy- but if you're want to go full eldersage wisdom monk mode and read philosophy in a thorough manner, /lit/ has you covered. Sometimes, going through wikipedia pages and internet/oxford encyclopedia of philosophy is enough. So long as you make those names purple, you're progressing, but it by no means substitutes actual reading.

lit is also the worst pseudo intellectual cesspool and I'd recommend against taking any of that shit seriously. Best source for general info is definitely the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. I also love rick roderick's lectures on the history of philosophy: http://rickroderick.org/
