Pictured is Voutilainen's 28ti from this year's Baselworld. It's the Vingt-8 but... reversed and slightly re-engineered. On the other side you still get a surprise, with a running seconds and power reserve indicators. It's going to be a limited piece, only eight titanium-cased pieces will be made.

Plenty of people joke about wearing their Langes case-back out., it's a clever idea that makes you say, why didn't anyone come up with it before. Thinking about it now, watchmaking rules strongly, and I mean strongly looks down upon having the screws the other way round but technically, in this case it's still facing the right way.

The bevel is thinner on a JLC, meaning absolutely nothing when the level of finish is the same.

Noone said they are, I doubt they build anything in-house. Their whole point is to outsource and buy relatively quality prefabs and put them together. A comparative homage watch from, say, Steinhart, would be at least double or triple the price. Granted, you can opt for higher movement decorations by Steinhart, but at that price point (700-900) you might es well go a tier higher.
Im no snob, for my history is filled with cheap quartzes, but I got their A-type flieger as a present and Im fairly impressed, for what its worth. Cut short, they seem to offer quite a lot for the money, if you can look past the worst korea bit. Considering how people pay 300+ for shit like DW, Michael Kors or any fashion brand watch for that matter, if you love bang for buck value, they seem a good option.

Better company my ass. The 36mm rolex oyster date models solely exist so normies can buy in on a swiss automatic with a recognizeable name for (relatively) cheap. Same ETA movement you can find in a fucking 200 dollar watch, not even well regulated or anything, 90% machine made, no notable features, no notable finish, absolutely nothing but ~4000 dollar price tag just for a piece of stainless steel that says "Rolex". Few watches make me judge people, if you've got your 100 bucks Invicta diver you don't give a fuck about watches and thought it looks cool, nothing wrong with that. If I see a 36mm Rolex Datejust? I'm confident you want to make people think you're hot stuff, shelled out the least amount of money possible for a watch that says "I have a lot of money".

A clay tempered high carbon steel katana that's about a thousand times better and more functional than anything anyone produced before the railroad came to Japan costs about $120, you really don't know what you're talking about here. It's not the early-00s wallhanger days anymore, and I imagine the same goes for the watch industry too.

Is the spammer's point that all "fashion watches" look the same? I've never seen the dumb blank design before he started spamming it.

Even if it were true it's a really dumb point because all "serious" watches *actually* look the same, they copy 2-3 basic watch designs and that's it.

Depends on what you consider fashionable. The watch you wear transports something about who you are as a person, as fashion always does. It isn't "just" the looks, I do feel a mechanical watch is more fashionable "by default" just by the merit of it's sweeping second hand and the fact that you've got a little machine on your wrist that powers itself. Just a wound spring and some gears, tuned to the point where they can accurately tell the time. It's a cool technical achievement, it's romantic.

Let me put it like this. The fact that you're willing to wear something around your wrist day to day that has a simple mass produced quartz movement and a cheapo plastic case made in china says something about you as well. If you're gonna wear a watch, why not wear a nice one.

I don't even really know what you're getting at. Details are for autists? History, heritage, inner workings, doesn't matter? All that matters is the pretty dial? A lot of people feel that way with their choice of watch, so you're not alone in that. Go knock yourself out. I will maintain that it makes people come off as ever so slightly superficial though.

Why would the dial matter if you're not a model? Who are you trying to impress with a watch without indices that can barely tell the time? An analog wristwatch is dated technology to begin with. Wearing a classic model that's direct descendant of old pilot / diver / tool watches and what have you, from a company that actually made meaningful horological contributions (and continues to do so) strikes me as as good a reason as any to strap a timepiece around your wrist.

Can't tell me brands just don't matter, we *are* on /fa/ after all. Yes, a handmade swiss timepiece from a century old manufacturer sends another message than a chinese fashion brand that was registered yesterday and whose sales model is 90% marketing and markup. It's not that I *worship* the former, it is that the latter is the epitomy of something I wouldn't be cought dead wearing. It's the horological equivalent of a quirky graphic tee from the H&M bargain bin.

Are new Omega and Tag Heuers that bad?

Is it just because they are popular and relatively mass produced that we are bound to have a few out in the wild where the quality is a bit poor or are defective. The audience is generally younger so they are more prone to whinge on twitter leddit and here? Is it just poorfags trying to say that their seiko skx is the best thing ever made?

I get the argument that they might not be good value and that they get some parts from China (lets face it everyone probably does these days just some do it more discreetly)
