Rolex is all about measured arrogance. You don't buy one to be afraid of being seen with it now, right? There's a difference between being playfully cocky/arrogant, and just chimping out with something dumb like an iced out RO or Nautilus. The Day-Date 118238 is probably the most beautiful design to ever exist, anyway. You got to be at least 40 to pull it off, though. 30 for the Daytona.

Hey, can somebody suggest me a wrist watch as a gift to someone very special to me? My budget is anything up to 1000 usd, something white, as she loves white, preferably no silver or gold, should have at least some water resistance. I was thinking automatic mechanical, but willing to take a quartz watch.

I myself have been wearing an Orient Ray II Raven for 2 years, it has some scratches from abusive work and does still keep good time in my opinion (sometimes it falls behind 2 minutes per month).

Here is a correclty proportioned one with a domed crystal. In silver it would look good too.
The example is a totally different dial but with the right proportions, they could have any dial and it would still look better than the oversized crap.

Because the actual finishing is very basic on Rolexes; their sport watches for instance have straight flanks with so-so polish, and no case bevels. That's because they're largely finished by machines, to keep costs down.
Same with the movements: very basic finishing.
But that doesn't matter because people keep buying them for the name.

On the other hand, Rolex does do a number of things right, like the accuracy standard, which is pretty much among the very top in the entire mechanical watch industry, and which does take a fair amount of manual input.
