It's worth noting that for some reason my beard doesn't have the same texture you see in most, it grows basically like hair, to the point that it "falls" if I start growing it more around my cheeks. So unfortunately they mostly don't "close", but I look like a child clean shaven so I grow it a bit. My question focuses mostly on that connection area between the moustache and the chin, which tends to get a bum look when grown. The liquid has alcohol in it (which is obv bad for your skin) but it breaks it apart and lets the min hit the follicles better. But the alcohol also gives the dandruff issue as well as the alcohol issues.

Foam doesn't have alcohol in it, and I like it a lot better because it dries in like 5 minutes. Haven't had dandruff or irritation since switching 3 months ago and none of my hairgainz have fallen out (I did have shedding at the begining though like first time on min, but it's good now)

I have an already large-ish forehead and a receding hairline/very slight loss of density.
My hair has always been a strong defining characteristic of my appearance, and I have very nice hair texturally speaking. I also have a somewhat soft and youthful face for my age (mid 20s).

1. Where should I go to get it cut? All the men's barber shops in my area specialize in the common short cuts like buzzes, fades, military cuts, etc. Should I suck it up and go to a salon?

2. Wherever I go, what kind of "layering" or "thinning" to I ask for to stop it bulging out so much at the sides?

From what I can see (and I am in no way a professional), you really just need to grow it out for now. Your hair is not as long as the guys in the other pictures, and gravity/styling products keep their hair down. You're in this awkward growing phase, but I think you could try to blow dry it and curl the ends in towards your face a bit so it doesn't stick out so much.

I can't help but feel that nopoo is only really good for certain hair types / aesthetics. For instance, I have very dense, but fine long blond hair that basically does not have ANY volume whatsoever.
And whenever I've tried nopoo, it just turns into this disgusting lanky shit. No matter how much I wait, or how much I brush, it never gets any better.
As such, I've basically resigned myself to shampooing fairly frequently, with baby powder to mop up the excess oil and give a little more body, and it looks SO much better.

I actually think I got more split ends and damage when I was doing nopoo and brushing all the time (with the bullshit vinegar rinses too). No idea why people are so scared of shampoos with sulfates in them, they're harmless.

If you are concerned at all try fin. its like $30 a year. You'd look better if you buzzed with a lower guard as well since you still have a hairline and it would look less noticably thin. Shave will look fine on you as well.

You're gonna want to swallow your pride and go to an actual beauty store. Look for shit that's sulfate free. /r/curlyhair is mostly for girls but has a nice list of products, and also a guide on how to get the best out of your hair type. I'd say you're probably 2A, same as me. Finally, personally i use "big sexy hair" as conditioner, which sounds gay as fuck, but it works wonders even just to volumize mid-length hair.

For style, a pulled-back look should help hide any recession, and it'll be trendy too.

I'm wondering about that, too. Skin types, too.
I've started the no poo thing 6 weeks ago and I never even had that 'greasy phase' everyone told me about. But I have that dark brown hair and never even washed it more than once a week before either.

So far this meme seems to be really great for my scalp (no scales anymore!), gloss and hair-ends but oh boy do I miss the fluff and the brushing can get annoying.
