In the States the opposite has kinda happened. TNs, Tailwinds, Deluxes, 2000s, and most Alpha Project era big bubble Maxes were primarily white boy shoes. Chad Jocks were all over these styles in the late 90s-very early 00s. Abercrombie shorts, T shirt repping your highschool or college, pooka shell choker, no show socks or no socks at all, fossil watch and ankle bracelet. Oh, and dont forget the frosted tips. Shox debuted in 2000 and by 2003 they had entirely replaced Air Max as Chads Choice™

The shoes most associated with Goons back then were Gary Paytons(especially the original Gloves), and Kevin Garnettes. And 1 had a considerable amount of street credentials during the era as well. Jordan's and Foams were popular with Drug Dealers, but seen as out of reach or too flashy for a lot of people.
