People at Moser are proper trolls. Is this a redefinition of „stealth wealth“? A minute repeater tourbillon that looks like an Apple Watch, with no hands, forcing you to use the minute repeater function to actually tell the time.

Got a package full of junk today. The whole point is that Seiko Elnix, which is luckily in restorably condition. The rest are also running but also kinda fucked beyond repair visually.

The top two are Citizens. The bottom left I didn't even know what it was till I opened it up, it has a 21 jewel Seikosha movement.

It's a rich man's world. People playing around with their money, disposable wealth. Just like the recently posted Chaykin Joker. It's a troll piece, meant to show you don't really care, is it ostentatious? Yes. Is it fun? Yes too. Now for Moser, go read up how minute repeaters are developed. It's difficult, it's expensive, and it's time-consuming. And for Moser, after all that, they place it in an Apple Watch lookalike case. It's a power move, albeit trollisch.

Seikosha cal. 560. Apparently these are pretty good movements, but I don't really know them.

I believe it is the natural progression of any artistic endeavour. Just like in painting and sculpture, the mere depiction of reality becomes boring and insufficiently expressive; in the same way painting has mutated from Caravaggio to Picasso, watchmaking will eventually shift from the 'classical' pieces of the holy trinity to the more brazen representations of the the more avant-garde watchmakers. Look back at how groundbreaking it was when AP, one of the most revered brands, came out with a steel sports watch, and how now people are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for a Richard Mille with rubber straps or again the craze for the RO Offshore.

I do regulate taking into account positional variation, and try to find a good middle ground between static, dial up/down accuracy, and worn on the wrist accuracy.

I've only been doing this for about three years, but my end goal is being good enough to machine my own movement. Maybe save up to go out to Murrica or Switzerland and get proper high-level training in the real shit.

Im going to post my thoughts and maybe some of you will understand

I want to buy a watch primarily to tell the time. I think it probably is more convenient than using a phone in your pocket. With this goal, youd want to buy something very accurate/durable/reliable, so quartz would be obvious.
What KIND of watch do you want to wear? Do you want to impress people or do you want to keep it as an accessory that doesnt define you? I dont like the idea of buying an expensive watch. It can be stolen and not recoverable. People may want to be around you solely because you have an expensive watch so maybe you have a lot of money so youre attracting snakes.
I think there are people who are snakes and just want to be around people with money, but there probably are genuine people who would actually appreciate your choice of watch and like that you put thought into it, but i think that they exist in far fewer numbers.
The answer would be a digital watch with a consumer brand like a seiko or citizen if we assumed all of this.
The point is that i dont want to attract someone to me that is impressed by a watch on my wrist. Do you understand what I mean? If you have two girls and you take each to dinner wearing either a casio or a rolex, and girl #1 reacts favorably with either, but girl #2 only reacts favorably once you have a rolex, you want girl #1 and girl #2 is a snake, gold digging whore. Why would I want to put myself on that parasites radar by wearing a rolex? Arent these seiko and citizen and casio watches supposed to be well made? They wont attract whores and if it's stolen, it wasnt expensive anyway. Youre less likely to have a knife or gun pointed at you if you wear a seiko/citizen/casio/timex instear of a rolex/patek/AP/omega etc

Does anyone have something to add or a thoughtful reply?

Your rolex isn't going to make you an instant magnet for gold diggers, trust me.

As for getting a quartz because it's accurate, I find this is actually counter intuitive. My phone tells better time than a quartz, so I don't factor into my purchases how accurate it is. My watches are more like intricate jewelry machines to me.

Youre right but even if you had money, would you want to advertise that? I still need a watch but its not about having money but who you attract and how youre presenting yourself. I think wearing an expensive watch is like asking for trouble. I dont have enogh money to buy a cartier tank or a rolex oysteperpetual or f.p journe chronometre bleu, thats right, but even if i did, what is to gain? This is all my opinion and im sure some people buy expensive watches and can handle it. Obviously id feel a touch good and confident wearing a lange every day.
>>14121234
>>14121228
Im very neurotic, so i think: all that it takes is one bad person to target you, and you lose a very good watch, potentially a lot or money but others can probably handle it
It does seem like its still a piece of jewelry as a quartz but it looks like good, fancy mechanical watches are a high barrier to entry, so to even join that club requires an investment of at least $1,000 for a Nomos or a used Breitling or something. Losing 5 seconds per day i guess isnt a big deal so quartz is probably not necessary.

My wife has been terminal now for about a year and we’ve spent countless days in and out of the hospital. Today was no different until her health took a severe turn for the worse. Luckily I had my trusty Omega Speedmaster, which made the sting of watching a loved one wither away and die in front of me while pumped full of medicine slightly less awful.

I found the chronograph feature particularly helpful while timing our final seconds together, and the triple date complication made filling out her death certificate a breeze. The pain of losing her is immeasurable, but at least I know that when I pass down my speedy to our son he will inherit more than a timepiece, but also all the moments it collected.

Never heard of that brand.
If you are looking for a diver you can get a new Casio duro for 49.99. Or used for a little more than half that.
If you can spare a few more dollars you can get a Seiko 7002 automatic diver for 80-90. Or you can find a quartz modded one for the same price and that will probably have an aftermarket dial/hands/new bezel insert.
Phoibos has a lower end diver that’s around 100 if I remember correctly and that would be a nice option as well.

You're a snobby moron who uses watches to feel like an expert about something because you're a loser. This is why 99% of watch collectors are fat ugly losers. It's the least interesting thing to get into and requires nothing. You're just another consumer. This isnt a hobby. It's equivalent to women buying jewelry. You aren't smart, or mature, or high brow.

Thisnis a daily reminder for this containment thread. Anyone who actually needs a watch wears an inexpensive quartz. Anyone who has a life with important things to do wears an inexpensive quartz watch. You are all snobby idiots. Nobody respects you. Nobody thinks you're rich. Nobody thinks you're smart. You aren't deep because "everyone else just doesn't get it". You are buying jewelry, about as braindead as it gets. This is fact. I kinda fucked myself over with this one. I ordered the new, reference-specific crystal for this Seiko 5, according to the caseback code, without ever giving it a good look. When the crystal arrived it turned out that it doesn't fit.

Yesterday I decided to retrace my steps and start from the beginning, to see where I fucked up (maybe I misread the caseback code or some shit), and looking at the movement it turns out the reason why the genuine Seiko crystal doesn't fit into the bezel is because the watch is a fucking fake, with a poorly done clone movement.

Poor customer didn't even know and he had it for like 15-20 years or so.

This is what the original looks like. It has a very specific crystal with the PM time printed around the edge of it. The one in the fake was slightly under size so it wouldn't fit with the crystal gasket, and thinner crystal gaskets simply don't exist.

So now I have a useless crystal, and the customer has an unrestorable fake watch. So just look out for these /wt/, because they exist.

Is the Speedy Reduced really a bad buy in a world where smaller watches are making a comeback?

I personally think anything larger than 42mm is tacky as shit and my sweetspot has been around the 40mm (39 to 41 are all cool). Not to mention its 1k less than a Professional in my country.

>> No.14124633

Fyi the Professional doesn't actually have a 42mm dial, the dial is 40 and the extra 2mms is the crown protector on the case.

1980's seiko came in today, swapped battery and removed/cleaned pushers and bracelet. Pretty nice for 30 bucks.

Ok. Other questions about non-hacking watches:
1) Are the three hands slaved to each other except in time setting mode?
2) Do you just disregard the second hand altogether when setting the time?

I've handled both. SKX has an x factor that doesn't translate in the pictures it's just so purposeful and handsome when you hold it. Really feels like dive watch history. Mako/Ray feels one notch below in terms of robustness but it does slide into the dress diver category much easier than SKX
