Hey watchbros,
I'm planning on getting the Casio AE1200-WHD, but I had some questions I wanted to ask first-
(1) I've heard that the display window is rather prone to scratching, so I was wondering if I should get a screen protector or buy some Polywatch to try to circumvent that.
(2) If I use it in the ocean/at the beach, would it rust/corrode? If it would, would rubbing on some mineral oil (food safe) be good enough to prevent anything like that from happening?
(3) Is the strap it comes with any good? Is it durable, comfortable? If not, do you guys have any recommendations for a strap that would look good with it?
Thanks in advance anons.

>> No.14099794

>>14099735

1) Polywatch, hell even toothpaste, will take out any scratches you get.
2)It’s a cheap watch, it’s not made for diving or to be treated rough. It will break/get badly fucked up if you do.
Don’t rub any oil on it, that’s not going to protectt anything, you will fuck up your buttons if you do.
3) strap is decent. Change it out if you must but like >>14099776 said, it’s 30$. Your strap is going to cost almost as much as your watch.
Buy it. wear it. If it breaks buy another.

Buying watches is definitely not a hobby.

You do your research, find a nice watch or two that fits you, and there you go.
A watch is a very personal thing; it's very obvious, attached to your body, and lasts many decades. So your choice of watch is pretty significant since it will tell a lot about you.

However, "watch collectors" (i.e. people who keep buying watches) obviously have some kind of personality deficit that they're trying to fill with trinkets. Often they're also chasing that "new gadget high".
Not good.

And a tier below the collectors are watch flippers.
They're just like watch collectors, but are too poor to actually pull off being one.
Meaning they're spending a great deal of time and effort choosing which item to buy, instead of using that time and effort more productively in order to achieve a position in life where they could ironically much more easily afford a bunch of watches.

I want a very pragmatic watch.
I have no preference between mechanical and quartz if the features are good. I want something useful that still looks good enough. I'm interested in perfect timekeeping, not losing seconds every day. The Casio Oceanus (?) seems good with its atomic time and solar power and titanium material. the Omega x33 is much too expensive but looks good. I probably want a digital watch but if it also has analog, that's neat too. the Casio gw5000 has good features but looks ugly like a childs toy and is huge on the wrist, and i also don't want any plastic or rubber watches leaching into my skin.

does /wt/ have any recommendations. I don't think I'm interested in this mechanical watch stuff. i want something modern but still acts primarily as a watch and not some fragile smartwatch garbage. I want the durability and reliability and perfect timekeeping.

The lug-to-lug measurement is one of the most important elements of what makes a watch look too big, and on the Tuna that's just 47mm, same as the case diameter.
Also, the nominal case diameter is 47mm, but they wear much smaller because of how the shroud tapers towards the face of the watch.

Tunas are famous for wearing much smaller than the nominal measurements.
They make Turtles look huge.

At the "top" half of the wrist there's tons of shit going on, with keepers that make the fabric take awkward shapes that push into the wrist, and at the "bottom" half of the wrist there's just one layer of thin fabric that kind of digs into your skin/flesh like underwear elastic bands into a fatty's love handles.
Plus the watch sits taller off the wrist.

Got a two-piece fabric strap and never ever looking back.

post your reasonable choices for the following settings

daily watch(work, going for a run, lounging at home)
outdoor activities (hiking, swimming)
dress (wedding, ceremony, tuxedo events)

reasonable as in you aren't choosing a $250,000 Patek that you'd never actually see yourself buying but a $1,500 Seiko instead because it would be relatively reasonable as an endgame watch etc..

also feel free to combine them if single watch works for 2 scenarios, or even add more(watch for flying because you actually fly a cessna or take helicopter lessons in your free time etc)

nato is a meme. but there are pros and cons with everything:

normal and thicker fabric straps are fine but they expand due to body warmth. sometimes makes your watch dangle on the wrist.

leather is fine but you can't get it wet and it falls apart too.

metal is most durable but heavy on the wrist.

silicone wins the contest by being durable, doesn't expand much, is water-proof. some people don't like the look though, however there are silicone straps that have a texture close to leather straps on top sometimes.

resin straps might break after a while.

For that sort of thing I would unironically go for a quartz watch so I wouldn't have to give a fuck about impacts. Maybe the Promaster Tough, but put it on rubber.
The daily I think can vary a lot from person to person based on their work environment. My current daily is an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Original, and I am very happy with it.

That's just a basic bitch Unitas 6497. They've been in production since 1950. ETA has them ridiculously overpriced though, Cousins.uk has them for $220, which is fucking ridiculous for a fucking primitive-ass 1950's pocketwatch movement. Some are even sold for $450.

Seagull sells their clone for $30, and at this technological level it's going to be in no way inferior. A sub-seconds movement is actually simpler than a center-seconds one, and these fucking alpine kikes charge a premium for a 70-year old design, that isn't even particularly accurate or anything.

I would say no. Sarb033 is excellent because it's "so much watch for the money", but when it comes down to it, the sarb feels very cheap when you handle it. Much because of the cheap bracelet. Also the indices on the sarb is polished in a way that makes them disappear when light is not directly lighting on them with an angle. It's ugly when you're in dark rooms. I'd say the certina is very superior. You get what you pay for, and that certina is more watch than the sarb.

Sure you can buy the same cut of meat at the grocery for a whole lot less but is it cooked the same? Is it seasoned with the same ingredients? Is it well prepared and plated? Casio is nice. I don't like their huge digital watches but this little fella just caught my eye.
It felt really liberating when, after years of lurking and several watches i came to the conclusion that you need to wear what you like. This whole thread is cancer, most of the posters here are huge cringelords that will seethe at everything and are worse than leddit. They lost any kind of fun in watches. And so did i, almost. Until i discovered some casios.

Yeah well, if you can afford to be memed into throwing away money like a goy, you should be enjoying it properly. If you are afraid of lowering the value of your goy-toy, you clearly are not rich enough to own it and saved up for it like a pleb.

Why does this board shill stowa so much? They outsource to china for some of their parts. Nomos is good though. Stowa is uninspired, relying on brand 'heritage' and classic designs.

Whatever you say little buddy. You say it doesn't form part of your identity, yet you're actually and unironically attempting to gloat about owning a "swiss luxury watch". Your post makes it obvious that you're proud of owning a sub $3k status symbol. If it was at least a luxury car I might be sympathetic, but just take a step back and imagine seeing someone get so flustered about a sub $3k purchase. Like I said, anyone with a mcjob can afford one.
