Okay so I'm apparently going to be the bootblack at a local fetish-event, coming up in a month. Do ya'll think I could manage through the night with these supplies or should I get something else to go along with these? First timer to this kind of shit

>three polishing brushes (black, omni, brown)
>2 tubes of black polish and few canisters of wax-based black polish, 2 tubes of >omnicolour polish
>2-3 canisters of leather balsam/wax
>leather oil, like one big 500ml canister
>toothbrush for cleaning out nooks and crannies and three towels, one for buffing, one for the oil and one for cleaning
>different sponges for spreading every type of polish (+ one for the leather wax) and one >brush for spreading the wax-based black polish

You guys think this would be enough? So far I've found out it's mostly big guys in big biker boots, if someone comes up to me in over-the-knee greasy leather boots, I'd at least have some wax there. But as you'd imagine, it'll most likely be dudes wearing Wesco, Chippewa, some Dr. Martens and other skinhead/punk-rangers and basically shiny boots.

Lennon work boots are big, chunky, heavily made things. They are what they say on the tin; work boots made on lasts, patterns and machines from literally a century ago. They make some slimmer town syle boots too.

I'm looking for my first pair of boots and the consensus seems to be that they're good quality for their price point. I've also never worn any colour footwear other than black so they seem a safe pick, but I don't want my feet to constantly be in pain when I'm walking around in them.

no clue, but i bit the bullet and grabbed a pair of unnailed low boots. being prototypes they did have several quality control issues: mine were a few milimeters off when they were lasted, meaning the quarters don't perfectly align when left and right are juxtaposed, and the leather varies quite a bit in thickness. other than the leather gauge jackboots should be less susceptible to these problems, but enjoy eating shit slipping on steel nails, because they aren't making any plain leather soled boots anymore, apparently. >>14013562
There is nothing better than Red Wing for that price range. That's why Red Wings are so popular, they're very good value for the money. Comparably priced brands like Wolverine, Thursday and Chippewa are not as good as Red Wing and use foam insoles, shitty Chromexcel leather and other lesser stuff than Red Wing uses for the same prices.

There is nothing wrong with Red Wing at all. Iron Rangers are kind of a meme but the Merchants are absolutely gorgeous and they have new styles out too like the Wiliston that look good. But there are brands better than cost more so Red Wing is a decent entry level brand for people figuring out what they like before shelling out more money for Aldens or Whites or Vibergs or something like that.

There's a fair few but it depends on your budget as they're all relatively expensive. On the lower end there's William Lennon, Solovair, Altberg and Loake then you step up a bit to Grenson, Crockett and Jones, Joseph Cheaney and Church's and finally if you have fuck you money John Lobb and Edward Green. There's probably some I'm forgetting too.

>That's why Red Wings are so popular, they're very good value for the money.

I understand where this statement is coming from but popularity, even in this case, is not entirely due to good value.

Red Wing's leather is in-house whereas some of the other boot companies listed buy from Horween. There is no guarantee or information that Red Wing aren't also using chrome salts in their tanning process. That is without even getting in to how each boot company chooses to finish their leather, if at all.

Red Wing are fine but so are most of the other boots in that price range. Red Wing as a company are more involved in promoting themselves on social media and maximizing their profits through globalization.

Chippewa are less fashionable but have many practical boots that ordinary working folks actually buy. If you want something different then check them out. Danner as well.

If you're not a soldier in uniform don't wear combat boots. I'm talking actual combat boots, like the coyote tan ones that soldiers get issued and buy.

Same with hiking boots, they're not /fa/, they don't look good, they serve a purpose and don't need to be worn when not doing that purpose.

for the last ten years I wore a low key trekking shoe and it was perfect since in my line of work I often go over unpaved areas but the sole was soft enough you could drive in it easily.
I would like something with a solid, grippy sole, would be about ankle high but not above ankle and would be both sturdy and breathing enough so I could wear it all year round. I appreciate designs with not many colours, earth pallette is good and I would like it to be able to last for three or four years with minimal or no maintenance

Look up Danner Rat boot steel toe. I have the non steel toe version. They come in two colors, one is "mojave" which is a lighter tan and one is in coyote brown. I'd say the coyote brown looks better but i can see the appeal of a dark toe cap on light nubuck look. Definitely pays to put brown polish on the toe and heel caps, the color they come in is a weird olive brown or something.

It is literally the most durable material you can make a piece of footwear out of. There's a reason combat boots, firefighter boots, etc. are made from leather.
If you take care of your boots by doing the minimal amount of maintenance such as brushing off dirt and an occasional conditioning there is no reason they can't last 20 years.

Hi again, was the person from the last boot thread that was looking for a pair of long, black, full grain leather boots with thick soles and a good year welt. Needed to be available in the UK which effectively cut me off from the biker boot market in the US.

After many hours looking for what I want I've come to the conclusion that they either don't exist in the combination I want, or will cost me an insane amount in shipping back and forth so I think I've got a good compromise.

chelsea-style boots seam to be much more commonly available, especially in person so I should be able to find my size easily. But they actually seem to be available with thick welted soles as opposed to the paddock boots they look similar to.

As far as I can tell, I can just pair them with leather half chaps to get the length i need, but without having to worry about finding a long boot that fits both my foot and leg. I also guess they would dry faster and be more versatile if i need something less odd looking for formal stuff?

Timberland seam to have a decent selection, and afaik are well built enouth for what I need them for.
https://www.timberland.co.uk/shop/en/tbl-uk/men-footwear-chelsea-boots#esp_cf=COLOR_FAMILY&esp_filter_COLOR_FAMILY=Black

Half chaps seam to be something I can actually buy online as long as the sizes are listed (hard to fuck up basic circumference right?), and this way I don't have to compromise the boots with a zipper that will eventually break.

Is this a good idea or am I missing something important?

>>14015187
If you end up getting brown ones, try oiling them. Check out the pics here, shitty used/dry ones almost look brand new

From what I've seen the UK biker market leans heavily to shorter designs, with the only long ones I've been finding being imports of americans with limited sizes.

I'm clearly not that good of a fashion judge, but white soles limits their use.

What did you actually do with the hammer? Never heard of shoes being broken in like this? Also, consider replacing the laces with something else, looks kinda plasticy, clashes with the leather.

yeah I got some navy blue laces for them now which look good.
