No, I just want to not worry about water. Same way a 30m watch should not be worn in shower, a 100m rating gives you an idea how wary of water you need to be.

I guess a better question would be is screw down better than non screw down for the same water resistance?

Just wait, it gets worse. I tried on a Rolex Day-date, a watch I've thought about as a 'final' watch, for the first time a few days ago. It was gold, and perfect. The only problem is that it felt cheap, as in, it didn't feel worth the thousands of dollaroos that I would have had to pay for it.

On the same day, I tried on a JLC Reverso, which again, was on the list. It not only felt cheap, but looked cheap when I looked closely at it. Granted, it fit my wrist well...but that's not the point.

The greatest and saddest disappointment of all was when I tried on a normal Hesalite Speedy, which I had always intended to get at some point just because it's iconic. It felt...cheap. Light and cheap, and the hands looked plasticky and cheap.

I'm very sad about all of it to be honest...but once you cross the Rubicon, I don't think it's possible to come back. Don't cross the river Anon, whatever you do. Just don't.

That's just it, that's the problem (at least, for me anyway). I no longer feel the drive to strive for material things. It seemed so meaningless, wearing a 25,000+ watch on my wrist. It seemed replaceable, like it was one in millions of other day-dates around the world. There was nothing special about it, and the cost of it didn't make it special the way it used to in terms of my personal perception.

The weirdest thing about all of it is that I know intellectually that I love the watches I own only because of the events I wore them through. Sentimental value, in other words. But if I were to buy a new watch, I'd have to start the process over again with that watch, building the personal connection. Maybe I feel I don't have the time for it...or maybe I don't have the impulse. Whatever it is, the 'want' to buy these things has all but disappeared.

If I were to say anything, I'd say this: save for 1 watch, maybe two, and wear them for the rest of your life. Then the watches are special because of all the events that surround them: deaths, births, accidents, and things like that.

OH, another one I tried on was the Globemaster (Omega), because I was curious...it's quite large actually, and ungainly as a result. They would have done better to do a 39mm or so, but I guess it has to be large because the thickness is there due to the movement. Anyway, I wasn't impressed (it was the platinum with blue dial).

Just a sad day.

One other thing though: you mentioned that you have 'never tried on luxury watches'....you should definitely do so, as soon as you can. Whether it's a friend or colleague who has a base Omega/Rolex who's willing to swap for a few minutes, or you take the time to go to a boutique and try some things on, the bottom line is that you never know how a watch looks on your wrist until you wear it. You can look at watches online, love the precision and detail and all the rest, and then find that when you actually put it on your wrist it doesn't work....alternatively, you can go into a shop and a shopkeeper might encourage you to try on a model you don't particularly like, and then be gently surprised at how much you like it on your wrist.

There are lots of things about a watch that help to 'seal the deal'. How does it feel? Is it too heavy/light? How does it sound? Do you like the legibility of the dial? How does it feel when you wind it? Does it fit under the normal cuffs you wear? There are lots of things about a watch that you can't predict until you put it on, so my advice in that way is to definitely try on as many watches as you can. Only you can make that decision, but you have to figure it out in person.

>>13858244
Is my writing style that obvious? :) Actually, I've given up on the grail, not out of concern, but because now that I can comfortably afford it, I no longer want it. That's why I was looking at alternatives. The Daniels should be in a museum in my view (yes, Indy syndrome), for all to enjoy. As I said, I've crossed the Rubicon, and I can't figure out any way to come back. Get a good watch, and wear it...the experiences linked with it will be what makes it special, not the perception of others or even your own preconceived notions regarding 'value'.

Yes, the screw down probably seals better but the main thing in this situation is the screw down crown eliminates the risk of pulling the crown out and compromising the water resistance.

Also you should never shower with your watch, the warm water causes expansion which makes water intrusion more likely and whatever soaps/shampoos/body washes you use can allow water to pass through seals with greater ease and/or possibly degrade seals.

I use a watch that doesn't have a screw down crown and has 100m water resistance for everything. Water and soap have been all over it but you just give it a fresh water rinse after and it's fine until you need a service any way every 4 years or so because the seals are aged by that point.
As long as you don't pull the crown out under water it will be fine for most day to day use including having it on in the shower or spa pool

Divers are literally tested in temperatures that are as hot or hotter than your shower or hot tub
>There is also a "thermal shock" test, during which the watch is immersed successively in 40ºC, 5ºC, and 40ºC water (ten minutes each) and then tested for water resistance. It's probably not a coincidence, by the way, that 40ºC is the maximum recommended safe temperature for a hot tub, so if you're wearing an ISO 6425 compliant dive watch, you may (apparently) hot-tub with abandon.

Your problem sounds like there are some contact errors with the battery, I think the battery compartment has some design flaws which may lead to this. You could try to isolate the contact points for the battery and make sure the battery doesn't make contact anywhere except those two areas.

Rolex refused to lend them a watch for the movie, and that's when R. broccoli gave sean connery his own watch for the filming.

It's all gone to shit now, I can very well understand martini, and walther, and even aston martin, as they are so fitting with the character, but omega keeps fucking it up more and more.

Not that I care now, ever since Daniel craig, the movies have been a total joke.
