My point is I am part of the culture and appreciate the process. Irezumi exudes the Japanese essence which is everything is a work in progress. A sleeve or a bodysuit is a long term commitment that tests your patience. I don’t feel as satisfied when I get a one shot tattoo that only looks good by itself but clashes with others. I like traditional Japanese because of the harmonious flow it creates on your body. It looks like you actually respect your body that you planned out everything rather than getting a bunch of immediate satisfactions from small ones. That’s just my preference. Do whatever you want but don’t put others down.

If something is neither beautiful nor useful, then what good is it? Tattoos are the same deal as quality jewelry, they're expensive enough (factoring in potential removal cost) that you have to put some thought in. If you've got unlimited options, why would you choose a design that's not meaningful to you? Either to present a dishonest image of yourself or because you're actively opposed to the idea of meaningfulness.
