I'm still struggling to find a good prep/trad winter coat. It needs to be wind/water resistant, moderately thick, and not short. No, I live in MA. I can tell you that everything Vineyard Vines is trash. Not necessarily the clothing but the stigma attached to the brand. Ocbd recommendations in Europe please.

Right now I'm buying custom shirts from shirtonomy and Luxire to get that dank collar roll but I'd rather not be spending 90 euros a time in basics. Would import from us if it was at all convenient (for returns) and if I didn't get buttfucked by import duties.

>> No.13814493

>>13814468
How's the collar roll on those two? Also if you want a decent shirt it's gonna be hard to find for less than 90€, especially in Europe. Otherwise you could look into Kamakura but you'll have to pay import duties.

>> No.13814495

>>13814468
Honestly, the US is no better option right now. BB made in USA OCBDs are of mediocre quality for the price and have the fabric made abroad and just assemble it in USA, it's barely even made in USA and still expensive as fuck.
Then there is Mercer and Sons but will still be expensive, way better quality than Brooks Brothers though.
Your best bet as European is buying Drake's (made in England), Eton (made all over Europe), Berg and Berg (Made in Italy) on sale, that way you will have the best price quality ratio. All of them have long enough collars (more than 3.25 inches), but imo to rate the collars rolls: Drake's>Berg and Berg>Eton.
Also keep in mind that Drake's is the only one that has frequent designs, other 2 are basic ass stuff, that's why even as a European I buy BB (only deeply discounted) sometimes because they have designs atleast. And of course, for that same reason I also sometimes buy PRL (even though they have shitty collars).
We need to pray that Kamakura shirts will open up in Europe, those are by far the best price/quality ratio shirts out there right now, I wish I bought more than one when I was in the US. But due to customs and shipping and returns they aren't worth it in Europe.

LOL. I actually go to Oxbridge and can't believe my eyes reading this thread. CT and TML are definitely over average quality and worth their price (if bought on promos) and a shirt lasts for 2+ years if it is rotated properly. You can obviously have a couple of more fancier dining shirt but CT and TML's shirts do their job if you need something nice to wear 5-6 days a week. In reality most of my peers here buy their shirts from Marks&Spencer. Also you guys are doing some US preppy historical reenactment group from 60's not actual day-to-day preppy. Barely anyone dresses like that anymore. You'd be pointed out by all public schools kids as a tryhard or weirdo. In particular, maybe 10-20% of people dress somehow smart. I'm talking here mostly about UK, but I have also some friends and Yale and Princeton and they most definitely don't dress up like some of inspos in this thread.

>inb4 what a degenerate place Oxbridge has become
No, it's about education quality not dressing up as you'd wish your dad was dressing up.

I've been to Oxford to visit friends who study there and it's clear that they're just a bunch of kiddos who haven't got a clue how to dress.

However even if they did dress exactly the same as the inspo in this thread it would be completely irrelevant and I think you've completely missed the point of these threads. It's drawing inspiration from a style. No one is pretending to actually be a yale student from the 60's. I thought that would be obvious. Preppy style has long since transcended its ivy-league origins and many of its features have become menswear staples (penny loafers for example). When people draw inspiration from a style they incorporate elements from it and make it their own.

If you still don't understand that maybe you should go to a street wear thread and laugh at people 'pretending' to be basketball players or perhaps you should tell those terrorwave faggots that they aren't really fighting in the Ukrainian conflict in the Donbas region and they should instead wear clothes that are strictly relevent to their socio-economic position.

This. You simply addapt to a style and add your personal touch to it. >Harry Potter-esque buildings

Honestly - Harry Potter buildings are Oxford-esque, if by that you mean medieval

>>13819742

Also, I'm at Oxford atm too, and can easily say that whilst yes, the plebs will still buy ill-fitting shit from Topman or M & S and consider themselves 'fancy' with their polyester suits and 4.99 wine at formal and thus CT is still 'above' that, anyone with any taste wouldn't contemplate wearing them. Ede's, Budd, Turnbull and Asser (in particular) are simply so much superior

Won't dispute that one can expect nothing more than mediocrity from 75% of the student populace, but given the proportion of publicly/privately educated undergrads (who at least come from a tasteful tradition even if not tasteful themselves) collared shirts, blazers, boat shoes, chinos aren't exactly uncommon, particularly in summer. Have you ever been to a rowing dinner, for example? Rowing blazers are somewhat fetishised on the internet and are pretty commonly worn for those

Also - Americans, bear in mind that this is England and English dress, so parallel and with links to your 'preppy', but also quite distinct. I find it interesting - 'button downs' have no real tradition in England except as part of obsolete mod/skinhead subcultures, who took them from the Ivy look in the 50s/60s, which in general took a lot from Anglo style - fun cross-Atlantic cultural exchange

Probably, but I've never met anyone but one kid wearing Ede&Rav and rest of these brands daily. And as a matter of fact, he was dressed by his mother, which is a quite peculiar thing to learn from 22 years old gentleman. Even the most posh people I know would consider it as extravagance.

>but given the proportion of publicly/privately educated undergrads (who at least come from a tasteful tradition even if not tasteful themselves)
You must be larping Brideshead Revisited to amuse fellow 4channers or actually only visited Oxford for few times and never studied there to hold such despise seriously. No one even in the most elitist clubs and dining societies think that way anymore. This is the modern landscape of Oxbridge that everyone accepted.

>Have you ever been to a rowing dinner, for example? Rowing blazers are somewhat fetishised on the internet and are pretty commonly worn for those
You seem to accidentally forgot that these occasions constitute only few nights a year and apart from these situations rowers wear, sleep and train in their plastic college/boat club sweatpants and hoodies 24/7.

Interesting comment about button-downs.

Most of dinners are quite quiet, and it is just a social networking club for rich kids to ensure that they'll get their 100k salaries for starters in the city after graduating with third class honors from their shitty subjects, but to this day sometimes shit gets a bit out of control. Maybe not like breaking windows but things are really rowdy sometimes. But this is not exclusively case with Bullingdon, some dinning/drinking and male sports societies are even worse. Eh, not quite my point, I was talking in more general terms.
