Keep suede, nubuck etc dry, shoe protector sprays help but its still a good idea to avoid rain/puddles

Anyone else here have anything from Thursday Boot Company? I got a pair about a year and a half ago and I'm really pleased with how they've held up. I wear them almost every day, often on a motorcycle (lots of contact with the shifter, ground) and after a resoleing they're basically as good as new. I just hit 'em with some polish once a month and some conditioner once every few and that seems to keep them in shape.

They're a pair of boots that last long and is comfy enough once you've worn them in. That's pretty much all that can be said really.

Honestly, dont have a clue, just was handed a pair at the depo and have had them for 8 years. Dont know who made them as the label on the inside is worn of long time ago.

They're a bit big in size because the insides are unlined because you're supposed to wear socks depending on weather and not have puddles of sweat in them in the summer.

So probably buy one size smaller if you're only intending to use regular socks.

What are these spots that keep showing up on my new boots. I keep thinking that I dripped oil on them but then the spots disappear overnight. They reappear after I wear the boots for a few hours. Is it just from the heat and moisture of my feet? Honestly makes no fuckin sense. I dripped water on them and it doesn't stain like that. Maybe because thats where the leather flexes the most?

>> No.13801138

>>13801133
You may have over oiled them and the oil is getting squeezed out the leather like a sponge with the creasing of the shoe when you're walking in them

>> No.13801144

>>13801138
I haven't oiled them at all, its the factory finish atm. That sounds plausible though. I had the same idea but it seemed ridiculous, I didn't think there could be any moisture trapped in new leather. Maybe I'll email the company about it and see what they say. The spots are unsightly and annoying, I've worn the boots to work 3 times now and they show up after 3-4 hours on my feet. I almost had a heart attack thinking that motor oil or grease dripped on my new boots.

As far as I know it's for added durability as the toe is the most likely to have stuff dropped on them or hurt.
Now though since these are fashion boots and no one works in them anymore it's just for aesthetics. I love the cap toe personally because it breaks up the silhouette and prevents clown toe from happening.

Anybody ever own Frye boots? I've had two pairs and both slowly lose the black color on the soles when they get wet. Just walking through wet leaves will do it the first time you take the boots out. I'm always having to re color them with shoe polish. I expected them to be high quality for the price but they really weren't. Besides being handmade I don't think I like the boots.

>> No.13806315

>>13806310
And some of the descriptions for their footwear say things along the lines of "the more beat up, the better." Yet if if any of the rubber on the boots scrapes against something, or gets wet, the black color comes right off and youre left with a sand colored patch on your black boots.

>> No.13806320

I have three pairs of Frye boots. All three are from their Made in Italy collection, so it's not really their US factory making them (it's instead some retards in Liguria making them).

They've been great for me.

I did have one minor problem with stitching on one of them, but they repaired them for free under warranty.

>> No.13806333

>>13806320
What color? Did you ever go into harsh terrain with them, does wetness sap the color out of the rubber on the boots?

† To expand on this, the quality of Frye boots depend entirely on the specific boot. Some of the boots they make are made in the US. Some are made in Italy. A lot are now made in China. The ones made in China can vary drastically because it's different factories making different styles. I'd be careful of the Chinese ones. They're 1/3 the cost of the US/Italy made ones for a reason.

>>13806333
All three are black. The bottom of all three are leather (all of Frye's Made in Italy boots have leather soles), not rubber. I never wear them in harsh terrain/weather. I only wear them to work, and not when it's raining (too slippery).

Your issue, sole recoloring, is pretty interesting. After they cut the sole they use a hot piece of metal to seal it (melting it) then paint over it with wax. The wax is supposed to be water resistant. How long ago did you buy the boots?

>> No.13806390

>>13806351
Ok so it's most prominent on the toe's of the boots - that part of the soles.. it never happens on the bottom. I've got Frye Warren boots and a pair of Frye Sutton Engineer boots. Both are over a year old now, I don't know how old they were when I received them as I bought them on ebay (different sellers, and bought at different times)

The very first time I wore the Warren boots into the woods was September 2017 and when I got home I could already see color missing from them, just from walking through some wet leaves on a trail.

>> No.13806398

>>13806390
The engineer boots seem to have held up better but I'm noticing now that the color is coming off of them from the same spot that the Warren boots' color began wearing off at. Also the color began wearing off the entire perimeter of the Warren boots' soles, I forgot to mention. Over time that is.. I stopped caring after I realized I couldn't fix it and began to beat the boots up. Havent worn 'em in a long time, but I still wear the engineer boots when I get a chance to. I'm tying to be nice to them because I like them. Should I not use shoe polish to re color the soles? I'm not sure if it could make things worse. I could see the chemicals possibly speeding up the decay of the boots

Sorry for four posts, but this actually happened last night and all I did was walk through some wet grass and maybe a bit of leaves.. They're made in mexico if that makes a difference. Probably my favorite boots I've ever owned, I'm going to cautiously approach trying to solve this problem..

>> No.13806420

>>13806403
Ah, I see exactly what's happening. This really is just a case of the wax coming off. They sand down the cork then apply wax so it's the same color as the shoe. It shouldn't come off that easily... but don't worry. It's an easy fix.

- Resole America is Frye's preferred shoe repair service. I've used them before. They're good. If you send those boots in they'll recondition the leather and reapply the wax (it'll be much better than whatever garbo the mexican factory used).
- I've never owned leather boots where the color DIDN'T fade over time. The leather is dyed. The dye fades through use. It happens. Good news is, it's really easy fix that and redye. Again, Resole America can do that.
- Applying shoe polish won't damage anything, but it'll come off over time too, and you'll have to keep reapplying it. It's better to use wax.

If your boots are under a year old (since date of purchase) Frye will cover the repair costs. I had a pair where I accidentally damage the finish, and they paid Resole America to reapply it, even though it was completely my fault.

I decided to get me some boots and I need advice.

I'd like them to be about as high as pic related, I'd also prefer them tan but brown is cool too, and for what concerns the design I don't want anything too serious or that looks something some old granpa would wear. At first I looked into desert combat boots a la shia, but honestly those are bit too extreme and unusual to wear casually for me.

thanks in advance
