No, the clothes quality of average to bad department store brands of Japan completely surpasses those from American mall brands. South Korea has the problem of not making a nice canvassed jackets but Japan doesn't even have that problem. Such a shame they are targetted to manlets unless size XXL (similar to slim American L).

It doesn't mean much, it mostly depends on the item, the brand and the factory.
Same with made in USA, UK, France, China, Italy etc...

Imo, the best thing is to buy things from your country, or articles from their country of origin (with some exceptions)
Examples :
- The best leather shoes come out of the UK, USA, and France.
- The best wool from scotland
- The best dress shirts from italy
- The best jeans from USA/JP
- The best tees/sweatshirts/sweatpants from USA, France and UK
- The best techwear from China...

you should see how shitty some of the domestic market stuff is, like 150 dollar range shoes made with CG leather that only exists because of import protections
