I really liked cdnim back when I bought it, today I find the opening really unpleasing, but I stop being able to smell anything after some minutes. I can still enjoy the extremely smoky drydown when I smell it like a couple hours after applying it, but I'm mostly anosmic to it most of the time. As for TdH, I don't wear it that much, I barely find myself on formal situations. From my collection I may end up trading the Cartier for something I like more. I'll wait for the samples I've ordered to arrive so I can decide on that.

Is it autistic to call out fragrances as being winter/summer only? I find the vast majority of the fragrances suitable for most of the year and think of the scent being too cloying as a matter of how many sprays the person puts on. i think any fragrance could be worn any time without issue but i can also see how and why people classify things according to season and day/night. cloying is just a frag buzzword people use when they dont like something. if they like a frag its not cloying it just has good longevity or projection. idk just dont let people preferences get to you

>> No.13694549

As someone who has Valentino UI and Arpege: hell yes. Arpege is a beautiful frag: rich, floral, creamy, spicy, an oriental floral gourmand that is warm, sophisticated, and comforting. VUI is darker, richer, more chocolatey, a bit more formal maybe, with more of a lipstick accord like DHI (which Arpege doesn't have). If Arpege is a rich royal blue, VUI is a deep purple. Definitely both worth having, and for the prices you can find Arpege for (I got my 1.7 oz for around $20 with a coupon on FragranceX) it's a steal. Gorgeous, at least on my skin.

Here's a review I wrote of it:
"This is a TRIUMPH worthy of its own ARCH. When I was 17, I took a trip with my high school foreign language club to Rome. It was the spring, around Easter, and in the air there was the scent of wildflowers, rosemary, orange blossoms, Roman pines, and faint whiffs of coffee and baking bread. Although those notes aren’t a part of this fragrance, it absolutely captures the feeling of Rome in the spring. When you smell Roma Uomo, you can feel the warmth of spring light on ancient flagstones. Imagine a picnic in the outskirts of Rome of impeccably dressed young people, with a lunch of caprese sandwiches, blood oranges, and chilled rosé. While they lounge and bandy philosophy, the aroma of wild herbs, freshly cut wood, and distant blooms floats on the breeze, curling through the aureate locks of a handsome Italian man in a light spring sweater. This is pure, clean sophistication. In the opening there is somewhat of a soapy accord that I love, underpinned by fresh citrus and verdant greenery; but the drydown is a lush, smooth vanilla, with a twang of resiney sweetness, and elegant cedar and sandalwood. It is a quite sexy and sensual, and a fragrance I wouldn’t mind smelling on a woman ( though make no mistake, this is definitely masculine). But it’s so soothing, comforting, and fresh that I often spray it on my pillows and wear it to bed. Performance is decent, though I reapply around the middle of the day. Its projection and sillage need a bit of work, as it has the tendency to hover closer to the skin than most. But apply 6-8 times and you will radiate a warm, paradisiac warmth that people will notice. This is definitely a compliment getter and a lady slayer. That woodiness with almost honeyed amber, yum yum daddy. A deep, rich gold is definitely the color of this fragrance; it has the same quality that the light assumes in early spring and autumn, or during the flaxen hours before twilight. Gorgeous. AND CHEAP."

If you want to throw some money at something I'd recommend getting a bunch of samples (2ml is usually enough to get a good idea) of things you think you might like rather than splurging on one bottle of something you might not like.

I test stuff on my wrist/back of hand/inside elbow.
Sometimes the cap of the bottle has something like a cup shape which hold a drop of liquid if you take off the cap and you can put it on. The plastic swab things are useless unless you are using attars imo. You can put the bottle on your arm and move it around a bit without letting everything spill out.

For me, the original has more "bite" in terms of the citrus and spices but its harder to pick apart the specific notes. Where Edition Blanche focuses on the lemon and vanilla, and both version of Sport emphasize the mandarin and tonka, with the original it's harder to distinguish the individual component parts other than its primary accords: citrusy, spicy, creamy. It has a more traditional "cologney" vibe but it's not dated or cheap smelling or anything bad. Smells like a classy man. I really recommend trying it, especially cause like you said it's super under the radar. It or AHSEE are my favourites of the line.

That's what I thought of it too. It started out as my favorite of the discovery set but as I gave it full wearings I came to the same conclusion. 1828 has actually become my favorite of the bunch its eucalyptus nutmeg combo is so good.

>>13700511
You know I have only ever smelled the spicebombs at a store so I cannot really tell you. I honestly think smelling bad fragrances has helped my nose the most. For example the 1828: when I first smelled it I brushed it off as just a nice kind of foresty smell but nothing special. When I revisited it after a lot more experience I appreciated that pine forest it has in the background much more and I think it is because I have smelled crappy versions of it in other fragrances.

wew well thinking about it I really ought to dig out my sample and see what I think about it now. When I first sampled it it was incredibly powerful and unpleasant to me. Like I was being tortured with leather. One tiny atomizer spray to my hand was constantly assaulting me and I actually had to scrub it after about an hour. I reckon I will like it more now than I did back then but we'll see.

disregarding a connection to some old thot's perfume/casual sex diary, anybody try Seville a l'Aube from L'Artisan? it sounds very interesting to me, with the prominent beeswax note, influence from Spain's Holy Week (somber, despite the story associated with the scent's creation, and "incense-like" accord), and created by Bertrand Duchaufour

Is it just me or does Green Irish Tweed smell good and bad at the same time?

Like it has a nice kind of pleasant smell, but it also has a musky, old man scent to it. Like it kind smells like something a smoker would be wearing to cover up the smell of the cigarettes in their clothes.

Aventus on the other hand just smells fresh and better.
