Thoughts on the Oris 65? Really want it since it's 40mm and thin. I wish it wasn't 1k. I make 33 a year before tax and have rental payment and land payment...

So yeah thoughts on the 65 and is there anything cheaper, halfway similar that's 40mm.

what is your experience with that watch? Cause honestly I have loved the look of that one for a while but I can never build up the courage to pull the trigger on it cause I had a bad experience with solar powered watches by seiko... Basically it died from not being used and it would never hold a charge again when I went back to wearing it. No watch shos can repair it cause it does not take a normal battery; I returned it to seiko and they took 2 months to tell me they received it, then they "repaired" it and "sent" it back. I never got it back.

I dont want to drop the coin on that and watch it die on me like the last one did.

How long have you had it and has it showed any signs on breaking down on you?

I have had it for 6 months and have not had one issue with it. I am sure if the power cell just started fucking up like you are talking about (not saying it didn't happen) and it was in a reasonable period of time, Seiko would fix it. I have seen people send seiko watches that were out of warranty technically but had obvious manufacturing faults that were not from wear or abuse and seiko has fixed them.

There are tons of 7548s that are 40+ years old that run just fine with no service but replacing the battery.

I personally would like a regular solar seiko SKX007, but this one is pretty close. I am sure it will be fine for 20+ years. I can set it down however long I want and wear other watches and when I pick it up it's always accurate down to the second even if I don't touch it for weeks. I like that part of the solars. I have owned over 10 seiko solar watches and never had a single issue with any of them (SSG001, several SNEs etc)

I have held a seiko skx007 up to a rolex submariner from the 1960s and I would say the rolex was inferior in terms of fit and finish

of course now with a subby starting out at $8000 and having amazing fit and finish that is no longer true, a brand new subby is a much nicer watch, however the watches that made them famous 50+ years ago were not much better in any meaningful way than a current $300-500 mechanical seiko diver

No shit and that is all because of the Quartz Crisis the Japanese caused.

You are correct the Swiss did make high quality, precise, and affordable watches but then quartz happened. Quartz watches were even more precise and massively cheaper and the Swiss industry was dying. It was essentially saved by mechanical watches being marketed as high-end status symbols for the wealthy and successful.

Hands in an accutron watch are made of magnetizable material, and so can affect the timing of the tuning fork when they pass by it (i.e., when they pass by 12 o'clock), and have a measurable impact on the rate of the watch.

This is similar to the reason accutrons will run off spec if they're regulated with the caseback off - the caseback changes the magnetic properties enough of the watch to push the watch timing by a few seconds per day. Accutron service manuals include the offset required for the various movements.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Black Bay, is in fact, Replica/Black Bay, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, "Shitter".
The genuine Tudor Black Bay is not a bad watch itself, but rather another meme dive watch, Rolex made by put together left-over parts, screws and other components, resulting a full watch defined by very insensitive marketing.
Many watch fuckers wear a replica versions of the Black Bay wristwatch every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the replicas of the Black Bay which is widely worn today are often called “Shitters”, and many of its users are not aware that it basically the makes them gay instantly, intensifying their desires to suck cock while wearing their Fake Tudor.
There really are better watches for cheaper, like Seikos, and these people aren't buying those, but it is just a part of their gay nature.

You guys (specially burgers) keep confusing resale or second hand prices with "value". Value has nothing to do with price. Price is determined by offer and demand (market) and how much one is willing to pay for something; value is intrinsic to the object regardless of price.

That's what I was talking about with Zenith. Their recent designs are unoriginal, boring or flat-out ugly. It's a dated movement they haven't improved on, Rolex modified it a lot for their watches, that you'd buy simply because of "muh history". If I wanted an El Primero I'd go vintage.

> Breitling
The new Navitimer is certainly a good addition for them but not to my own personal taste.

I was argue resale value counts for a lot if you are spending that much on a watch. If you buy retail and unless you buy a Rolex or Patek then as soon as you walk out the AD door you've already lost anywhere between 20% upto 50% of your money.

If you need to worry about Resale value you cannot afford the watch in the first place. People well enough enough to afford to spend $5k-$15k on a watch just buy whichever one they like the best, because they will never be in a financial position to need to sell it or to have to give a shit about any depreciation.

The people who obsess over resale value and always desperately aspirational poorfaggots like Archie living on credit and buying dumb shit like used Maseratis to try an floss when they are two bad months away from homelessness.

That's simply not true. Certain watches I've bought I know I'll never sell and will keep forever. Resale doesn't enter my thoughts. However they are a minority.

Most of my watches I bought because I liked them but the fact I can flip them at a later date for something I *really* want definitely factored into my decision.

You're also paying for the fact that it says Rolex on the dial, indicating to normies that you have money and to watch people that you have taste. You're also paying for the fact that you're buying into the Submariner lineage rather than some offshoot.

Complaining a Rolex isn't good value is fucking retarded, you're arguing against an entirely emotional purchase using only facts. If you bought watches based on the spec sheet and what value that represents by comparison to its purchase price your watch box would be full of F91Ws.
