>So, if Seiko won't touch their old watches, which watch brands do?
You don't need a parts account to get parts for Seikos, so you can just go to independent watchmakers.

Seiko's parts guarantee policy used to be 10 years after the movement family was discontinued, and you can generally expect parts stocks to last on the order for 30-50 years after that.

Honestly it's not something I would be especially concerned about, considering that those of us who collect Seiko's from the 1960s and 1970s aren't having many issues with the well designed movements from back then even.

Do you people take showers with your expensive watches?

please don't shower with your watch.

most watch gaskets are some type of rubber impregnated with grease. soaps are designed to left away oil and grease with water. so when you get soap on your gasket, it breaks down the grease, and drys out the market prematurely.

I don't know. Maybe it's just the hive-mentality in /wt/. I think a lot of tissot watches are good value for the money watches. Tissot and Hamilton occupy similar areas in the price to quality space, but Hamilton tyoically has better deals in the used space and has better designs (specifically, cases). Tissot has the thick-o-date and the clown face. The Le locle would be the only Tissot I'd consider. The new powermatic movement is also an issue for wt, and is most prevalent in Tissot.

When a watch says 100m water proof, it doesn't actually mean it can take 100m dives. It means you can wear it in the shower, perhaps surface sports like in the pool. Do not take it diving unless it has 200m water resistance, preferably 300m.

Well that is a very big wrist, but fear not. I personally would say that you can wear any watches above 40mm with style and proportion, but maybe you'd want to get between 42mm and 44mm to get that sweet spot. That is what I believe is your best area. Your wrist is so big that you can wear the biggest watches out there though, like a Breitling Super Avenger II Chronograph (those are 48mm and I wish I could pull something like that off) with style and proportion, or even g-shocks at 55mm.

Do you have any watches that you think look well on your wrist? What kind of watches are you going for? Are you a big budget luxury watch spender or are you going for affordable watches?

>> No.13499632

1) They are essentially made in China but marketed to normies as muh Swiss Made
2) They have laughable external finishing for their price.
3) They are deliberately designed to look like mallwatches so people who know anything about watches don't buy them
4) The Visodate is so thick and has a shitty snap fit case back and a crystal like a mirror on purpose so people who know about watches wouldn't be satisfied with it and buy a more expensive Swatch Group model instead.

Basically the whole brand is one of the most cynical exercises in brand segmentation in the entire watch industry. It's whole purpose is to suck in normies but then have those normies they convert into watch people eventually fall out of love with their Tissots and start lusting after more expensive Swatch Group brands like Omega.

the cannon pinion is an unfortunate combination of delicate, on a small post, and needing a lot of tension. there is an annoyingly small goldilox zone between 'too loose to turn the calendar at midnight' and 'too tight to set the time'. or worse, it'll crack.

a few of the calendar components are flat stamped metal sliding between bridges, which is very susceptible to oil sticking

and the setting mech... it's a stack of four pinions on the end of the sliding yoke. it saves a lot of space, but it doesn't hold enough tension and will flex out of the way and slip if the cannon pinion is too tight.

all these problems are on the dial side, and manifest in setting. the movement side, however, is Rock solid. so as long as the setting is all cooperating, the movement kicks butt
