How brittle are they though really? I doubt there are too many tests out there like "hey guys today I'm going to drop my DSOTM and see how fragile it is". I don't doubt they are more fragile than a steel case, but if you drop a steel case watch on a hard surface (e.g. tarmac) you'll fuck up the case and maybe damage the movement too.

I think if they could shatter on the wrist by banging it into shit then they are too fragile, but does a watch really need to reliably survive being dropped? If you have a $10K watch you should be more careful with it.

Oy vey my fellow goyim,

Thoughts on the new Hamilton khaki automatic field watch? I just graduated and my parents wanted to gift me a watch. But it cannot be more than 400 dollars. #poorboi

I own an automatic Laco A type flieger already. Wanted to get something that could be worn as a dress watch but like the 'vintage' milspec type watches.

What do you recommend?

I think Romain Gauthier is the independent that deserves the most time that he doesn't get here. The logical one is crammed full of cool tech and when I met him he spent twenty minutes talking to me about balance wheel designs.

The megaquartz movement had a number of advanced timesetting features. It had an independently adjustable hour hand, for changing timezone without affecting the timekeeping. With the crown in the relevant position, the hour hand moved continuously. When the crown was pushed back in, a system of magnets would align the hour hand to the nearest hour in the correct position relative to the minute hand. It also had a button that would advance the second hand by 1 second or that would have the second hand temporarily, for easy resynchronization with a time source.

mostly fiction.

only a little bit, but mostly it's a misnomer. for about a month after servicing, the oils, particularly in the pallet, can change the regulation slightly. this is mostly noticable in older watches that use more pallet grease.

as I said, it's a misnomer, because what makes a bigger difference is your wearing habbits. occasionally people need a watch regulated to the positions the keep it in. and in that sense, you're not breaking it in, but it still might need adjustment in the beginning
