>> No.13411836

Don't wear a tie

Wear casual shoes with them - penny loafers for example. I don't like sneakers with suits, but some people do, so maybe that.

Wear a relatively loose-fitting suit. Not oversized, just a more casual fit than slim.

Maybe wear it with a tshirt or a polo rather than a dress shirt from time to time

>have an occupation which requires a suit. This isn't hard if you're a productive member of society
>be at least mid-twenties, 20 at least
>don't make a big deal of it
>have at least three high quality, understated suits in rotation in subdued colours
>at least five good shirts
>at least two good pairs of shoes
>at least five ties

That's sort of the minimum, I imagine, without looking like a tryhard. Really it depends on context; if you don't meet these requirements, get at least one decent outfit and wear it to dinners, events and stuff, then progress into wearing them most of the time

If your job doesn't require a suit, you'll most likely look like a try hard if you wear one.

Exceptions:

1. You work primarily solo (ie sales rep, quality control, advisor, etc.) and deal with clients. They'll always be impressed by a good suit. If you are a pair it works as long as your colleague also suits up.

2. If you're in a position of authority. (i.e. manager / executive / director) . In that case because you already command respect, people will respect the suit. Also people will assume it's a requirement of your job.

3. If you represent a high end brand (ie jeweler, fine clothier, luxury car) where you are selling an image. People will associate your brand with prestige and expect a representative to look the part.

You can't pull off the look in your pic unless you need to dress like that for your job OP.
You could make a casual blazer of rougher material work, with chinos and maybe even a really nice pair of jeans, if you've got a pretty out-there, creative image.
Take inspiration from Bob Dylan.

It's actually really simple but it takes time. Get a dozen suits for all seasons, half a dozen blazers/sportcoats at least, wear them with a shirt and tie until you kinda hate wearing a suit. Now you don't respect it anymore and feel comfortable in them instead; it's not a costume or dressing up, it's just your clothes.

At this point, you can start being an individual about it and adding your own touches while still dressing in the trad framework. It'll take a good long while, but you can't fake it.

Depends on the industry. Banking and finance, Law, Real Estate, definitely do. It seems the more "creative" the industry, the more casual and laid back they dress. Tech startups especially seem to revel in the "still living in the frathouse" mode, with t-shirts, hoodies, torn jeans, sneakers or sandals, being dominant. If you are going to make a suit your daily uniform, be like those dudes on the Mythbusters TV show. One always rocked black jeans and black t-shirt, the other guy had a beret, perfectly crisp, white shirt, khaki pants, and the beret. Pick a style and OWN the bitch, make it yours!

Go to any high end country club or just sit at a café in the downtown commercial area of the nearest major city (i.e. at least a population of 500k). Anyone successfully working in accounting/law/finance/consulting is wearing a high end suit. Can clearly spot the people in this thread that know what they are talking about.

Most people who wear full suit+tie in a dapper fashion these days are seen as a bit 'extra'. The tie was mostly dropped in the recent decade after the GFC. There's sort of a sourness towards wearing a symbolic leash that the rise of tech giants has enabled society to embrace. I know walking around town looking fresh with a suit and tie may seem great, but these days people prefer to not look like corporate slaves.

Not saying suit+tie is 100% gone, just not as popular as it was.

stop worrying about "trends". If you're looking for suits in Zara or H&M, youll find nothing but disgusting slim fit suits.

The best suit is the most conservative fitting one. Not too loose but not too tight either but fits like a glove. So pretty much a tailored suit.

Basically what >>13430630 said. Wearing a suit every day unless you're actually required to wear one for a job is try hard/corporate LARP territory. However, wearing a tailored blazer or sport coat on the weekends when going out for dinner or to a bar is perfectly acceptable and probably a thriftier way of achieving a similar aesthetic. T-shirt, blazer, and chinos or nice jeans is an understated and very nice look that's not going anywhere any time soon. Get used to it. For young people, it comes across much better in most contexts than an actual suit, which looks odd on people <30 unless they have an actual reason to be wearing it.

All the clothes have to fit well, though, and the blazer and pants cannot be too similar in color - if they match it'll look like a failed attempt at a suit instead of its own thing.
