The principal is that many layers will stop a bullet because each layers absorbs a fraction of the bullets energy. Concrete is sooooort of the same principal because it's a tonne of rocks and sand held together with a binding agent.

Not that much to say, actually. It's a very durable pack, and spacious inside, but bulky and awkward. vinyl coated canvas on the top and bottom provides some water resistance. Like I said, it's main strong point is how bombproof it is. I used it every day as a bookbag for 4 years in university, plus on random hikes and adventures. Now I mostly just use it to tote around climbing gear. I got it way back when they ere like $6 on ctd, so I feel like i've gotten my money's worth with it.
