I second this. I'm a big fan of the 1675 and 16750's. Not only are they some of the coolest looking watches around with the two tone bezel, but they actually have added functionality with the GMT hand. slap a date wheel with cyclops, stainless steel case and some decent water resistance (you won't be diving in them but you can pretty much get away with anything else) and on top of that the Rolex brand name and it's pretty much one of the best watches made. Still kicking myself for not buying one 2-3 years ago when they were at 4-8K, prices have really ballooned in the last year.

If you want to get watch with the vintage look of a 1675 or 6542 I highly suggest looking at MKII watches. they have a gmt model that has all the classic styling cues and size, but with modern steel, an ETA GMT movement, sapphire crystal and even 660 feet water resistance. not cheap but it'll last you longer than a vintage watch and cheaper to service too. pic related, grabbed from the internet

The new H-10 movement (or Powermatic on other Swatch brands) that they're using in Hamilton watches is a modified version of the 2824 which is probably what's in your older watch. To extend the power reserve they lowered the beatrate and made everything thinner and lighter and weaker, including switching some parts to plastic. There is no way to regulate it, and Swatch won't even service it. When you send the watch in they just throw away the movement and swap in a new one.

>> No.13240053

>>13240009
>There is no way to regulate it, and Swatch won't even service it.
I don't think it's that swatch just won't service it either, it has something to do with the lasers used in making it, it's not serviceable. The youtube video I linked, the guy in there talks about this.

>> No.13240064

>>13240009
fair enough, but that doesn't make it non-serviceable. someone is literally replacing the movement, thereby servicing the watch. I wasn't talking about regulating the movement. also I thought the newer powermatic movements were predominately made using some sort of alloy, not plastic. either way, i'll take the increased power reserve and accuracy over muh bph.

>>13240053
Yeah well you can see there's no regulator. The regulation is done by laser at the factory. So I guess there's no point taking it apart and servicing it because once you put it back together it won't run exactly the same as before and there's no way to correct that.

Here's a regular 2824 for comparison. You can see the regulator with the + and - symbols which is missing from the other movement.

I don't know if I would call that "serviceable". That seems sort of like taking your car into the shop to get a new engine every time it's due for an oil change. And it's not a regular 2824 and Swatch fucks over independent watchmakers by refusing to sell parts, so good luck getting anyone but the authorized dealer to fix it for you.

It's basically disposable and you say you care about power reserve and accuracy over beatrate, so isn't quartz literally exactly what you really want instead of this poor compromise?

Cheap skeleton watches from aliexpress or whatever are extremely neckbeard. Opean heart is an ugly gimmick, and that movement isn't even decorated or anything so cutting a big hole in the dial to show it off is even more unnecessary. But that's an aesthetic choice and if you like it and you won't get tired of looking at it then don't let anybody stop you.

It's a nice watch other than that not a bad choice at all. It looks like it fits you well too. As for white vs black dial, white is typically a little bit dressier but that's a casual sporty style anyway and either dial color is fine.

Help, I'm really torn between copping a seiko sarb017, sarb035, or cocktail time sakura(pic related). I've worn different seiko 5's and a seiko divers in the past but now I plan to be a 1 watch guy until I'm big enough to get a grand seiko or some shit.

I almost never wear suits, but I like the minimalist/lowkey-ness of the 035. The 017 is absolutely unique though, there's nothing like it at all. The sakura has a lesser movement and only 50m wr. but I really dig the LEEMEETED EDITION special dial and there's a good deal for one near me.

I used to like the King Quartz better because of the cool case shape and because it's in better condition. Now lately I've been wearing the Grand Quartz instead. It's very thin and lightweight and I like the dial texture a lot. I need to get it serviced though, the day-date mechanism hangs up sometimes. The GQ also has a twin-quartz movement which is a neat technology that doesn't really exist anymore.

Both of them are really beautiful watches in my opinion and a pretty unique style. The movements are also top-notch and blow 99% of quartz watches made today out of the water. They're criminally underrated for the price I got them at, in my opinion. But I actually wear the orange dial one the most even though it's the crappiest one. My dad gave me that one.

Can someone help me find a legit brand new Seiko SARB033 on Ebay? I don't want to end up getting scammed. Is this listing legit:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Seiko-SARB033-Mechanical-Automatic-Stainless-Steel-Wrist-Watch-On-Sales/273048337542?epid=144252978&hash=item3f92f2fc86:g:rVsAAOSw-JJacSxm

I feel uneasy that it's from Hong Kong, but the seller has a high rating. Also, the price is very low compared to others so I'm a bit suspicious. Wat do?

I was so close to buying a Khaki a couple months ago, the the H-10 movement rubbed me the wrong way. I got a Hemel instead, and it's really fun and I like it a lot.

Looking for another watch like this which is under 40mm. This one on my wrist is 42mm and it's a little big, it would be perfect for me otherwise. I definitely like that classic vintage flieger or field watch style. The problem is whenever I look for watches like this they're always around 42+mm. I plan on getting the Flieger Klassik 40 Baumuster B 1000, but I also want to know what other options there are. I also only want watches in the 1000 dollar price range, and absolutely no Hamilton. Hamilton uses a shitty proprietary movement called the H-10 which only they can replace and they just throw it out and replace it with another one.

There has to be a decent classic field/flieger looking watch 40mm or under around 1000 bucks besides the Stowa.

I decided to order the SARB033 off Ebay from a Japanese seller called Premium-Japan for $358.

If you check the Amazon listing for $390, that is also being sold by Premium-Japan. Read reviews on both platforms and they look legit.

Now to play the waiting game. Wish me luck!
