If I find a tattoo that I like off Instagram, can I just show it to a local artist and have him copy it? I'm not traveling across the country just so I can get the original artist to do it.

You can probably find someone in a tattoo shop who will do it, but typically "artists" specifically won't want to do that. I'd suggest showing a local tattoo artist something you like, and working with them to make a similar one that's in their style and unique to you.

Ultimately though, it's your skin so if you want to pay someone to put a specific picture on it you can. The tattoo police aren't gonna come arrest you and laser it off.

You can always consider getting something original and not getting someone to rip off original works

All traditional tattoos are okay to copy because they have no owner and have a standarsised look

As for everything else, the thought of having the exact same tattoo as some other dude is unthinkable

travelling across the country for a specific tattoo could be a pretty good story if you lived a little bit on the journey
