How do I tell a person I hold very dear, who believes that he has developed his 'own' style, that he looks horrible?
I mean I tried to do it subtle, showed him the right store and told him to buy some jeans there, which he did, but even then managed to get the most ridiculous ones out there (ultra skinnies). Pic related is what all his pants look like on him

Some people might be aesthetically inclined but lack taste. Developing proper taste takes time and is somewhat subjective- not everyone can be as cultured as others, they lack either effort, care, aesthetic intelligence or personal time. But if they’re happy, you should be happy. Only seriously bring it up if you think he can’t get dates because of it.
