Mechanical watches are a relic from the past when there was no quartz or digital watches. People only had mechanical watches to rely on and the best and most accurate came from Switzerland. This is how the mechanical luxury watch was born. People gave them as presents for their family members or long time employees because they actually were a greatly valued gift that would be passed on to their children.

This was the past. When quartz was invented, mechanical watches became obsolete instantly. Nowadays we digital watches in our phones, computers etc. and literally any option is better than a mechanical watch. It is a useless piece of ancient technology.

Their only purpose today is to serve as pseudo symbol of wealth for those who need to display it. The watches are being sold at a hundred times of their actual worth. Also in a lot of hyper masculine societies such as ours, it is often times the only accepted jewelry for men.

TL;DR: They're useless trash being marketed to idiots who spend a fortune on them in order to wave them at bitches in hopes to appear rich and powerful.

mechanical watches do not require a battery. with excellent machining they can be extremely accurate, as much as a good digital watch (of course nothing beats the precision of say a cesium watch, but that still requires battery)

so if you're stuck in a place where acquiring batteries is impossible, or you lose your batteries while traveling, your watch is literally a worthless piece of junk. mechanical watches will never have this issue
