Fuck that mirror anyway, looks uuuggglly.

Now to your room, I'd get curtains or remove it all together and a bed that's not too big

get furniture with lots of storing space so you can clear all your things if need be

break up the negative space on your walls, you got alot of space so make sure to use it

can you paint the room? That would improve the room soooo fucking much geez

Also which direction is your window facing? It's a fucking weird window but maybe you could put a shelf under it and put some plants up

GL anon it's a nice room and thank the gods you don't have those shit ass carpets everywhere

It's nice overall, but a little too plain for me, even considering the minimalist look you're going for. That coffee table is quite dull and doesn't really fit the look of the rather nice tv stand. another thing is that the far wall is a deadzone. there isn't a side-table or anothing over there. i'd definitly try to find something for that space, maybe like a smallish table with a plant on it or something (would help add a hint of colour to the room).

Lastly i get that you have really nice jackets, but displaying them that flagrantly is a little off-putting. especially since it takes up such a large portion of an already smallish room. I would also ditch all the boxes (or put them in a closet or under your bed) no need to flex on people

Thanks for all of this.

Definitely agree with most of what you’re saying.

The rolling rack is an attempt to break the space up, to really separate the living room from the kitchen, to display my favourite items, and also actual storage for my clothes. We have another rolling rack in the bedroom and a sliding door closet but there just isn’t enough room.

Realistically, the wife and I should widdle down our wardrobes.

The white table will be swapped out with a black marble top and brass/gold frame one.

have you ever lived in such a place, be cerfull of judging them as hellholes without knowing anything about what you are talking about. i think you'd be surprised how calming it is to remove most visual distractions and rather let a couple of peaces to shine. Contemporary architecture also challenges the idea of what it means to dwell, The way you live if heavily effected by the architecture you live in and may explore this rather than just refreshing what already exists.

yeah i could write an essay about this theme but i cant be bothered and you seem quite ignorant to what contemporary architecture is and reduce all architecture to be "nice and cozy. Architecture like fashion is not necessarily catering to the generic masses, what generic people what in terms of aesthetics and function is usually quite retarded and ignorant (functionally) and ugly. It's all well and good for runway fashion to be inaccessible and impractical, and I'm all for architecture taking similar experimental risks.

However there is a difference between Rick showing off some runway design, and living and working in ugly postmodern 'hellholes' (to borrow your words).

Most people are the 'generic masses', and most people don't want to live in grey concrete environment devoid of 'distractions', built with unsettling and inhuman proportions and forms. They don't give a shit that it won 12 awards and symbolizes the fragility of life, it's ugly and symbolizes the ugliness of life to them.

That's why people overwhelmingly prefer comfy, cozy, human in scale and material, with traditional and vernacular forms.

He's absolutely right that the stairway you posted looks impractical. It'd be a dealbreaker for me; I have several family members, not to mention pets, who might literally be unable to navigate it safely. Certainly not comfortably - and they're not even THAT mobility challenged, it is not like they're amputees or anything. The whole space is drab. I seriously doubt it's possible to adequately light that it with the light sources on display there (despite the light from the upper floor, and the entire far wall being a window) and those chairs look like they'd be a nightmare to actually sit in, with no back support.

I agree with him. It's visually striking, makes for a good photograph, but if that photo is representative I give it a C- for livability. And those are substantive criticisms, not me trying to make every living space "Walmart-tier."

On a personal note I cannot imagine you being a very good designer if you really have this kind of contempt for the "generic masses."

sure the stairway isn't 100% piratical, its prioritizing looks, poetics and experience which for you might not be interesting but remember that this stuff is made to order by a clitent that choose this architect, its their home it doesnt cater to you're needs or others. (Pets etc)

You are the one who always enters these peaceful threads just so you can shit on people and shill your academic taste.

Don't you ever wonder why the vast vast majority of people dislike the style you shill, and prefer comfy 'generic' styles?

It's definitely not because your discipline is masturbatory right?

I checked out other pictures of that home after posting. There simply are not many light sources. There are plenty of windows, lots of natural light - hope it's a sunny day outside!

>sofa or chairs? the chairs have full support wtf
No, they don't. They have fairly low-level, inclined backrests. That's fine for certain postures, but generally not the posture of e.g. somebody sitting at a table eating.

>also ive got all A's through my study so you're evaluation is lol
Jesus Christ, are you seriously referencing your grades? Are you still a student, or a recent grad? If you're either of those, you shouldn't be posting about this with the air of authority you're adopting. And if you're not, why on earth would you reference your grades instead of your professional accomplishments?

People who are experts in their field and can back up their points with years of experience generally don't have so much trouble expressing themselves. So far you've written almost nothing of substance - several variations on "no it isn't lol" and "I'm too smart to talk to your Walmart ass." Which is a pretty weak dodge when everything I've written has been quite concrete and specific - easy to concisely refute, in other words.

i am expecting better taste from a fashion forum as fashion is similar to design/architecture. its surprising to se that people that are generally interested in aesthetics like generic ikea , trump style architecture and house mom interior design. sure i was hostile but i wasn't setting up for a debate either, if you want to seriously debate the fundamentals of modern architecture than you cant just through shitt around
>Don't you ever wonder why the vast vast majority of people dislike the style you shill
implying you opinions/a handfull of people on /fa/ represent the majority of industrialized people? here in Denmark minimalism is generally standard and strived after, same as the rest of Scandinavian, japan, Netherlands etc etc.

>It's definitely not because your discipline is masturbatory right?
implying you know anything about this profession at all.

I think it's pretty well known that vernacular styles are preferred by the majority. The fact that this debate is so widespread and well studied should be evidence that laypeople don't like esoteric design...

1 of English isnt my first language so expressing myself in English take time and is generally more difficult. i could take the time to go through all your arguments but it would take a fuckoad of time to argue on all these subjects and i cant be bothered to invest that much time into fighting some random person on the internet.
> Are you still a student, or a recent grad? If you're either of those, you shouldn't be posting about this with the air of authority you're adopting
implying that i dont have an authority considering ive spent 5 years/ 7 days a week studying/ practing? i dont need you validation as i already have it from within the profession was all i was saying.

Birch plywood is great, especially when you band the edges appropriately (I've even seen some edge banding that mimics end grain so the entire sheet can look like a real piece of wood)

George Nelson is actually American. He was an industrial designer that helped run Herman Miller. I tend to love wegener and all the scandinavian guys, but as you said they tended to be more craftsman and their designs reflected that. A lot of the american modernist designed industry in mind, which made their stuff a little simpler.

Wait, so you literally are still a student? Don't dodge the question, please.

>give me a room you deem tasteful and i'll try to break my thinking down
Literally everything I've said so far has been about functionality, not aesthetics, and that's what I'm mainly interested in talking about here. Which is unfortunate, as while you've written quite a bit about aesthetics, you've sidestepped virtually everything I've said about function and practicality, except for what I said about the stairway, which you acknowledged but dismissed as unimportant. Fallaciously, by the way - "it was designed according to the client's specifications" would be a good argument if you hadn't come in holding it up as an example of good design while belittling other examples that displayed a little more practicality. If you are trying to hold up your preferred style as functional (in general) then a stairway that's only suited to a narrow range of needs is not a convincing example.

>i could take the time to go through all your arguments but it would take a fuckoad of time to argue on all these subjects
No, not really, not if you really are the expert you claim to be. Again, everything I said was extremely concrete and specific.

That's a different anon who replied to you, but I do, yeah. Because you evaded the question several times. I'm not trying to make you feel ashamed, but you plainly are.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a student, but if you have not finished your studies yet, you should not be acting like an authority in your field.

>its hopeless anyways you guys are beyond clueless about what architecture is
>its like trying to explain high fashion to a angry wall-mart shopper
You are not an architect, dude. Your field has a certain amount of crossover with it, but ultimately you're not even STUDYING to be an architect.

And who's angry? I admit to a certain amount of frustration, because you've been disingenuous and evasive so far, and have claimed expertise that you don't possess, but none of my posts have been particularly angry. But okay - if it makes you feel like you're saving face, you can continue pretending you're not responding to my exceptionally basic points because your response would be too complex for my uneducated Walmart-shopping mind, and not because you're frankly unable to back what you said up.

>nasty window
>stiff surfaces everywhere
If you're going to have a hi-fi setup like that what's the point of putting it in such an awful room?

The room itself doesn't seem to be all that nice, so i get you have a lousy canvas to work with. Pick a few large furniture pieces to be your baseline. My reccomendation would be a bedframe, a wardrobe, a desk, and maybe a small dresser. Clean everything up and rearrange the layout. Try to remove as much superfluous stuff as you can to maximize on mobility. If this is primarily your bedroom, then the bed should be the focus and everything like your desk and wardrobe should be arranged to make it easy to reach your bed. After you got that, pick like only 3 things to hang on your wall and leave it at that. You've got too much shit there right now. And once that is done, find a way to keep your shit organized. If that means buying shelves with the leftover money then do it. Just keep it neat and tidy. Try to then get some small plants to put around. If you dojt like plants then try just keeping some interesting keepsakes like that wierd ass giraffe around. On top of all that you might want to also dot the walls and corners with extra light fixtures to primarily use instead of those abrasive ceiling ones.
This should all be just starting points. Its up to you what everything looks like in the end.
