Already asked on another thread:

I've understood from user experiences that Gripfast is a pretty gud brand of "boots & braces"-style-boots. The sole is replaceable aswell, unlike those air-filled soles on Solovair and Doc Martens-boots. Has anyone here had any experience with these? I'd love to get a pair that would last me a bit longer than my DMs, but I'd also take care of them by balsaming and polishing and rotating them (a.k.a letting them rest and dry up a day or two after one day of wear).

Doing some research I see that Red Wings have higher quality and last longer than boots like Wolverines and Thorogoods, plus I really like the Americana style

I own 604's and 8085's. 8085's are my more dressy shoe and the 604 is the actual work boot. Not all red wing's are super comfortable, not all of the leathers will wear the same. The "smooth finish" leather on your beckmans and my 604's don't scuff as easily as the leathers they brand "Oil tanned". Soles make a huge difference on comfort.

I've got roughnecks, and yea, the break in is a bitch, like the other dude said.

I originally had 8880s, but the welt busted. Really annoying but Red Wing sent me a brand new pair for free and limited hassle on my part. They even switched me to the roughneck cause I mentioned to the dude that the crepe sole was too slippery for my tastes and he switched them for free. I repaired the old ones and gave them as an xmas gift to my brother, and kept the replacement ones for myself. Highly recommended.

Its shitty that they broke in the first place, but the customer support was great so I can't complain and the new ones have held up great through some intense abuse. I recently had to deal with Doc Martens to get a pair of boots fixed from them. They wanted me to pay to ship them the boots, and pay return shipping (about 100 bucks, on a pair that retails for $140). The boots were only a month old too. Will never buy docs again.

New? Only if you're financially well-off enough to be able to safely drop $340 on a luxury good on a whim. Otherwise, the factory seconds or a used pair are worth the price, as long as you know what you're getting into & know your size. Looking for leather boots, but I'm not sure what the quality of the super cheap ones is like, if it's even real leather. Hey, weird question but how much do these weigh? I'm going on a long hike and I'm trying to find the lightest boot without switching to fall-apart trail runners.

Also which of the two designs has a better sole/is more comfy? I've read the Field 8 model catches dirt and stones in between the tread and mud turns them into ice skates

>> No.13098035

>>13097973
They are surprisingly light.
I've ran through a fair share of boots in the army and although these don't have the same grip, they are as comfortable and light as wearing sneakers. The 6 model is definitely lighter than the 8, and feels more like running shoes, but they are both pretty light in comparison to other boots. I don't know the exact weight though.

I haven't walked around in mud with the SFB 8, but I've walked to and from work 5 times a week in snow (soft and hard) the past weeks, using both boots, and they keep a good enough grip, even on ice. But the SFB 6 is a bit more slippery in my experience.

However, they are far from having the same grip as my M77 and Gore-Tex Alfa boots, but they don't have the same swag as these.

>> No.13098045

>>13098035
>>13097973

Also, they are both very comfy, but the SFB 6 will pressure the upper part of your feet to a certain degree, you only notice it the first few minutes after putting them on and when taking them off though, barely noticeable while wearing them through the day.

last time I was on the kstore they had sold out & were no longer listed, they seemed to be just offloading stock, and only selling lots of pins, patches, and Afghan hats + some South African harness'

so don't hold out on them having the Para boots in stock again, just try someone else for now.

I got a pair off of the store and I'd recommend them if you care. Real nice, pretty slim (still room for boot + liner socks), and I've gone camping & hiking in them plenty of times and they're perfect.

swiss link seems to still have them in stock for cheap.

they're grade 2 boots which means they have been used. mine were as well, and all it meant was they were wonderfully comfortable and had perfect wear honestly, so you might get lucky too.

Red Wing heritage boots like the Iron Rangers or Blacksmiths or Wolverine 1000 mile boots?

I'm so sad /fa/.

I looked around forever and I loved the Chippewa Apache, but the huge chief's head kinda threw me off so I went with the Iron Works Engineers from Katahdin instead.

Well it comes in the mail after two weeks and it's the perfect looking boot for me. Turn it over, and there's a HUGE CHIEF'S HEAD ON THE SOLE.

It's kinda weirding me out.

Are there any other boots which either look extremely similar to some brown cap-toe iron works engineer boots? Or how about a simple, but nice work / city-wear looking boot for a simple dude?

I love my 1000 miles for the slimmer silhouette and dressier sole but Red Wing is coming out with the Williston soon which does the same concept better imo.

Some people say that red wing has better quality than Wolverine but having tried on both I don't see the difference - obviously only time can tell though.

Really you can't go wrong with either imo but it's worth noting that you can often find red wings or wolverines heavily discounted online or at places like Nordstrom Rack

They're just combat boots. Ann makes plenty for men as well. They're very expensive but very nice and super comfy. You can get decent combat boots for as low as $120 new (Corcoran) or you can shell out for a nice designer pair (Ann, Balmain, Guidi, Dior). Don't skimp on footwear quality. You spent a lot of time wearing shoes.
