I'm assuming this is your only tattoo and that it is also a fairly small piece. Pic related would make you very unemployable and bar you from all military branches (atleast here in the US).

Anybody I see with a neck/face/hands tattoo and no other visible tattoos goes on my 'dumbass' list immediately.

Not to mention most reputable artists, probably 99%, of them would tell you no or at least heavily reconsider.

I'd rather a desk clerk have a full body suit, face and all, before no visible tats with one on the hand.

Sure, you seem reasonable enough.

To put it simply, tattoos are body modifications. You may not have realized but they are also a form of art. The difference between a artist such as a painter and a tattoo artist is the fact that you are bound to carry that design until you drop. Simple stuff right?

The issue is that it comes with a different sort of perception. Artists deny people who desire hand/face/neck tattoos early on because they don't want to burden naive and impetuous people like yourself. They, unlike yourself, understand how much scrutiny and ridicule you will face and they don't want to be responsible for that.

Not only that, but they also get shit on as an artist for doing that by their peers. You look like a sleezy shit who would do anything for a couple dollars and that's just not how the industry works at the professional level.

It's also a quality issue. Every single person that finds out who tattoo'd that eye on your hand will link the quality of the work to the artist Now you've got this customer who's a liability to your reputation and have to touch up constantly, most often for free.

Artists stick to people who have been tattoos multiple times with visible tattoos because, odds are, they've faced some sort of stigma or discrimination. Your little wrist ink doesn't cut it for this qualification. Those people aren't so much a reliability because they've got history and trust built up in the industry.

TLDR; You'll have to see a shitty artist so you can be discriminated against because nobody can know that your not stupid and naive. Shitty artist do shitty work and the No.1 place you can absolutely not have shit work is hands/neck/face.

Hello, so I've been wanting a traditional tattoo for so long, but I've never found an artist in my area who specializes in traditional tattoos and is good at it, but recently I was recommended an artist, who works in a town relatively close to my city and I really dig his portfolio, but I'm not very knowledgeable, so can someone who knows better than me, tell me whether he's good, or I should search for someone better?

I'm thinking about doing some South east asian tribal tatt because of

The thing being that it's an extinct tradition for centuries and people have only been reviving it lately so all meaning is lost and the only remaining designs known are from colonizers notes (pic is one of them).

What would you guys think about getting a tat similar to this, full back? No animals just the tree and I'd mess about with the design myself until I'm happy. Would be my first tat, but I don't want to get a tiny peice on my ankle or anything like "baby's first tat" because I feel like if I'm making a statement I shouldn't be half assed about it.

you could say that some of these pieces are personal and shouldn't be judged as art. sure, but then these personal pieces wouldn't be photographed and posted by some faggot on Cambodian bag weaving forum, but they have been which allows it to be seen and judged by 3rd parties whether its art or not.

Lots of discussion about what constitues art in this thread so I thought I'd share my two cents. In my opinion, art conveys something. It can be as high level and complex as an entire world view, a political statement, or a meta analysis of art itself. But the most basic, fundamental message art can convey is emotion. The way I determine what is "good" or "bad" art isn't by the content of the message or how basic/complex it is, but rather how well it is conveyed and how close my interpretation is to the artists intention. Even if a piece of art does not align with my values, I can still appreciate it if the values within have been conveyed successfully. Of course this is entirely subjective and different people can derive different meaning from any given piece, resulting in no objective good or bad.

The way I determine what is even art in the first place, comes down to external viewership. The way I have my desk organised is not art. It would only become art if I then photographed it and showed it to other people where it would then be judged as being good or bad (most likely bad). Not everything humans have ever created is art, it is only art if it was created with the intent of being seen and appreciated by others.

Also does anyone know what this style is called? >>13038133

What are the levels of priority when it comes to choosing where to get your first, second, third tattoo? It was mentioned earlier that the back is a bad place to start not just because of the resolve involved but its precious real estate that should be given more thought than 'babby's first tattoo.' So what would you say are good places to start/continue while working up to chest/back as to not ruin the entire aesthetic/cohesiveness once you're fully tatted.

I'm asking because I kind of want to get a shield on one forearm and a sword on another but I also I'm interested in sacred geometric designs like pic related and I think one would clash with the other.

I'm thinking of getting this, it's a line drawing by Picasso called etude pour ballad. I'm thinking of getting it either on my left thigh, ribs/side, or my wrist. Thoughts/suggestions?

Just not my cuppa. I think such a minimalist tattoo would be a waste of space on my body. I like detail. I'm basically a maximalist.

I assumed by rib/side you meant on the side of your rib, under an arm, which is a popular spot. I also, for some reason, assumed you were a woman. So it would be like a portrait in miniature whenever you raised your arms.

Just not my cuppa. It strays too far into abstraction. There's a certain point where abstract art becomes bullshit and I think Etude Pour Mercure has crossed it. If it wasn't a picasso literally no one would be impressed.

Ah, I see. We are looking at the same picture with different viewpoints and tastes, which would explain how our reactions to the Art are different.

Not judging, condemning, or putting your thoughts and observations down, I am just analyzing your viewpoint as to gain a better understanding of my own viewpoint and desire of the tattoo.

>assumed you were a woman
Why did you get that feeling that I was a woman? Do you believe that this work of Art is feminine in some way?

>> No.13041315

>>13041274
Yeah, totally. That's why I made sure to say 'personally.'

For sure I think its feminine. It's curvy, abstract, impressionistic, rapturous, holistic, and a slew of very feminine descriptions. There is, to my eyes, nothing manly about it except the boobs.

Here's a slightly more flattering photo my friend took. It looks best in person.

Is it really that bad? I like it but I get the feeling it's gonna be made fun of. Eventually my whole leg is going to be covered. I get that it looks kinda crust punk and I appreciate that. I need some more opinions.

What are you guys thoughts on getting a tattoo upside down on your quad? I've been googling upside down tattoos a lot but most people bash it for not looking right, to which I agree on most spots/body parts because it's like wearing a shirt with a logo on it upside down so you can see it.

However I feel like it's different if you do it on your quad because only YOU see it if you wear shorts while sitting down or laying. I'm thinking about getting a womans face on both of my legs.

Fragrance free is important because a lot of fragrances can irritate skin, even if you can't notice it. Fragrances serve no beneficial purpose to skin care products other than just making them smell nice.

You mostly just want to make sure whay you're using is free of fragrances, citrus oils (can irritate skin), and alcohols (unless they're fatty alcohols). Regular cheap cetaphil will work.

The best product I ever used for a tattoo was this ointment called "redemeption" I think. It was mostly a blend of natural oils and butters (that's not to say natural is better, but these were a good blend of non irritating emollients). Unfortunately it's jar packaged, which isn't the most hygeneic nor stable packaging for those kinds of ingredients. I found cubes of food grade raw cocoa/ shea butter worked as a decent replacement (some of the ingredients in the oinment). It's heavier than lotion and also forms a bit of a barrier.

I have an “upside down” tattoo on my wrist, but that’s because it is solely for my benefit and not meant to be read by others. It says “Dream?” And I use to it Do reality checks for licid dreaming. I think it would be weird to do if your purpose wasn’t so self-centered though.

Slash marks, like pic related, is the first thing that comes to mind. But there are tattoo artists that specialize in cosmetic tattooing for disfigured people and I they would be able to come up with something much more original and compelling than something basic like pic related.

Are they raised they very noticeable aside from the discoloration? Is it from cutting or what?
