Can a guy in his twenties get away with wearing horsebit Gucci loafers, or are they a generational thing?

i.e. are they really classic, or are they out of date?

loafers look terrible 99% of the time anyway

Gucci loafers are the shoe equivalent to a steel and gold Rolex. If you are ok with that, go for it.

Are you sure? They were an old money stereotype in the '80s.

I'd say they are equivalent to wearing a gold-plated mechanical watch with a white face and a leather strap. Offensively expensive, but tasteful.

Another less flattering comparison woul be to a navy blazer with brass buttons.

Cheesy and out of date? A traditional classic? It's debatable.

I cant unsee it, and old fag with a steel&gold Rolex, a pinky ring, a navy double brested blazer with brass buttons (anchors engraved), and gucci loafers. White turtleneck and regular fit cream chinos optional.

Imagine him being Luca Montezemolo (pic related). Now imagine him being Danny De Vito.

There you have it.

My pair of Gucci loafers has silver (color, obviously) horsebits for the exact reason that gold looks way too “cigar lounge in the 70’s”. All my blazers also have black buttons rather than brass ones. I think brass goes very well with brown, so all of my brown belts have brass buckles, but in general the color gold seems feminine and I try to avoid it.

Yeah, I do get what you're referring to anon. Cheeseball imitators who think the word classy is classy.

I think most of these iconic elements can work in their own natural contexts. Cheeseballs try to bring them all together and look like they're wearing a costume.

But an old noble can wear his inherited signet ring on formal occasions, someone who actually dives can wear a diver's watch (though they'd wear an all-steel, since gold is too soft,) white turtlenecks were not ridiculous in the 1920s sporting context that they came from, and navy blazers probably have their role in the kind of summer sporting events where hotdogs are not sold.

Gucci loafers - if it's summer or you're in a hot country and are staying at a hotel everyone knows by name, then maybe. Most likely wearing an untucked shirt with one (1) button open and the long sleeves rolled up to the elbow.
