How should a new boot feel when you put it on? The guy at my local Red Wing store said it should feel like a firm handshake, but I'm not sure if I'm actually crushing my feet or something.

Nice and snug imo. Definitely don't want boots that are just too small in hopes they will magically grow because you will really damage your feet.. They should definitely hug your feet snugly. You should also account for thick socks and or a thick insole if you plan on putting one in.

Any opinions on Oak Street Bootmakers? My favorite pair of shoes is some moccassins from them, so I'm tempted to go with them again for these boots. I've seen some horror stories about their QC though, and it also seems like their handsewn shoes come from a different factory than their boots so maybe my good impressions from their shoes shouldn't apply to their boots. These are already more than $400 so I find it kind of hard to stomach that I would need to spend even more to get a really good chromexcel boot in this style, I may take the chance with these and see if the complaints online are overblown.

Also, for some reason I can't explain I just want the leather sole rather than dainite even if it's less practical. Is that a mistake? There's no ice or snow where I live, winters are mild.

They should be a bit tight at first, it's normal to experience some chaffing - I recommend you condition (with a leather conditioner, not polish) them more often during the first couple of weeks. If your feet actually feel like they're being forced into unnatural form and you get cramps or something of that sort you should prob get a larger size. If the larger size is too large you can get insoles/thicker socks (assuming you don't want to consider another model).

Actually I was looking for something cleaner. My inspo is the kind of fits Lupan III wears. I have some inspo on that, that's not anime related, but I'm on work rn so anyway,

Yeah you fucked up. Patent leather boots are for military parade uniforms. They will have an extremely high gloss shine forever, if you are okay with that, please re-think your fashion choices.

And no, you don't polish patent leather, like the other anon said, because it wont stick, shoe polish is for leather, not plastic. If you really are sincere about wanting your boots to be shiny, you should have just picked up some black cocorans and learned how to spitshine, at least then you wont be wearing a plastic boot like a moron.

Considering that most of these steel-toe'd ranger-boots are hi-shine leather (A.K.A corrected), are even the higher-end models worth it? These boots would set me back 175€ and I'd expect a good amount of usage from them. They are hand-construced in England. I already have a (used) pair of Solovair Southerners and MiE-14i-Docs and they both feel better constructed than my Asian Docs.

I understand that corrected leather will never stand up to the same out of beating as full-grain, so is the quality control just so much better that the price would be worth it?

Tan modern boots kinda look more military than old school black boots imo, though it does depend on the style. Docs have been used in so many non military contexts in the last few years that they've kinda normalized black leather combat boots.

Tbh though in that price range you should look for some mid-late 1900s surplus combat boots that are full leather like austrian meme boots, Norwegian M77s, or the French ones with the buckle. Full leather boots are less military looking imo cause they have a bit of vintage feel to them and in the right context can be passed off as work boots

Have a pair of solovair steel toes i got about a year ago and the left one started jabbing my achilles tendon inwards and causong a lot of pain.
Tried wearing thick boot socks, didnt help.
Both boots are slouching a bit at the ankle in the same way but only the left hirts me.
I never took super good care of them. Never oiled em until recently and wore them every day.
Am i fucked? Did i ruin my 200 dollar boots in less than a year?

Look inside to see if there's any excess leather if so trim it off. If the boots have sagged or you've changed the way you walk you might have to just wear them in again. Only other thing I could think of would be to place a large blister plaster where it's hurting you on the inside of the boot and wear them in again

Can't decide wether or not to buy boots with or without lining, theyre a buck cheaper if I get them with. Seems also more comfy but I'm not sure if they wouldn't be too warm if I'd wear them around spring.
Anyone care to give me his opinion? I only moved to a colder climate zone a year ago and didn't get boots last year.

I got a pair last summer, beat the shit out of them all winter (I live in Central Massachusetts and there's snow on the ground for months at a time. They're starting to peel away from the soles just a bit but they'll probably be good for a while longer. For boots under $200 they're not bad but if you need real durability you could probably do better
