Whether its too wide is not the problem, because wide soled kicks can really look good (see high end sneaker designs, e.g. Balenciaga). Though with wide soles u might want to wear a bit wider jeans (boyfriend style maybe)

The shoes are alright, but - coming from a person who works in the sneaker industry - they look a bit cheap and wont really impress others. They communicate tryhard, but with a budget.

This is true, haha. Also, I'm going sneaker shopping again today as yesterday was a bit of a bust and a lot of shoes in my size were sold out. I did get some good advice here and will definitely look into Reebok club c's. I orgininally wanted ultra boosts but they're all sold out in my town. My boyfriend picked out the Velcro shoes actually, and I got them in white because that was mentioned as a /fa/ shoe color a couple of times. He even knows I posted here for shoe advice.

I know my fits are weird/ill fitting sometimes, but I'm working on slowly building up a solid collection I actually like. So basically, I'm working on cutting down the cheap/ill fitting clothes, but I'm not against the weird. My cheetah coat may be obnoxious, but I really like it and I know I can work it in with other pieces even if a lot of other people don't like it. Same with my velcros.

i write a lot of indie pop on the side and i think it's sorta commercially viable (the female reaction to the demos has been positive at least), but i always feel like my shitty sentimental folk writing is part of the problem, and part of the reason why music of the last 15 years has felt so pointless

so i've tried starting a band with the goal to revive rock and man, anyone that says that nirvana/black flag/pixies/melvins' writing is easy is delusional. it frustrates me so much, i want to kill myself every day and IRONICALLY THAT DOESN'T HELP

ngl hadn't heard of swain until you mentioned them. gave long dark blue a listen, it's certainly confusing me, thanks for sharing! i'm so convinced that music before the 2000s was so much better, that hearing stuff like this that's at least "passable", at least bordering "good", is hard for me to digest.

i'm digging their more black flag-y kind of stuff like Half Asleep more than than those poppy singles, i don't think they have the melodic prowess that bleach era nirvana/black flag had.

all in all i like records that are the intersection of:
- strong melodic ideas (strong hooks) and free movement between diatonic and non-diatonic chords (e.g. using chords from both E minor and E major like About a Girl)
- cynical/sentimental, thoughtful-yet-sardonic lyrics that are self-aware (everyone post-2000 rarely gets this right. the lyrics on bleach/nevermind aren't edgy at all, they're barely about anything sometimes, which is cobain mocking songwriting convention. father john misty is achieving this right now)
- basically a lot of awareness of and aversion to songwriting convention, the 6 nashville chords, common song subject matter, etc

... and by that logic i can give that album like a 6 at the least, so thanks for showing me again. i'll be listening to this for a while! :)
