I've seen some lively discussions from time to time in these threads. But more often than not, they just die. There's a lack of new material being posted, as most inspo threads are just regurgitating the shit you saw in other inspo threads. I wish I saved a list of interior decorating and architecture tumblrs some anon posted way back when.

Another issue I think is the female dominance in interior design. Both from a client and a designer point of view. While that makes little difference in fashion, as clothes are not often unisex, lots of articles and photography are geared towards women and female-styled spaces. So you get furniture and decorations and colour all leaning towards femininity over masculinity and very little, outside of office spaces and "man caves", in the opposite direction. Not that it's inherently a bad thing, but the lack of content can be limiting. It also limits the more neutral options, since it's so saturated with gender specific spaces.

That really depends where you look for inspo. Both my parents are architects so I grew up with magazines for modern architecture. The photographs are ALWAYS empty and cold scenes that emphasize materials and lighting instead liveliness. That is definitely more masculine than feminine.

Did it have the jpeg showing all the files in your post? If not, please post again. I'll happily dl it.

Also I found some fun stuff through this, which is literally the first hit on Google. Just go through the links, most sites link to more, so treat it like a wikipedia loop.

http://www.mydomaine.com/decorating-blogs

For hard copy stuff, the Monocle Cosy Homes, Kinfolk Interior and a book from Commune are nice, at least in my opinion. There are some jap interior mooks too, Go Out, Casa Brutus and Lightning being ones that come to mind. Obviously there's more, but I don't own too many and can't speak for other people. I only know one person who's into interior design, and her preferences differ vastly from mine.

That's very true.

I could never afford that lifestyle, or even just some of the furniture, so I often ignore modern architecture magazines and the like. I'm not sure where I stand on the idea that cold and lifeless depictions necessarily veer towards masculine. I always saw it as being pure neutral. I'm only speaking from my experience here, so I guess I should say YMMV.

Are the guys interested in discussion still here? Should I go to /diy/? I have internet only every 2 or 3 days.
I almost went to architecture school 4 years ago but end up in engineering (not it is not civil). I will have a bit of free time from this week to july of 2017 and I'm planning to study and draw a few things using SketchUp, DraftSight, Krita and Blender.

This semester I read on beauty, intro to geography, intro to proejct managment and some american architecture book from 1800 to present (cant find the name). This last one was really good because it has a lot of nice pictures.

I've been browsing this:
http://www.lighting-magazine.com/

I want to learn more about illumination and plants because I believe these are the most important elements of decoration. Also they are the cheapest to change (I'm not gonna build new walls on a property I dont own).

So I plan on makinng some minor and cheap changes in real life and letting the big changes for computer programs. Hope it doesnt take a life to learn Blender. This semester I had a pain in the ass with SketchUp.

/diy/ has some extremely questionable taste. It's better for literally learning how to do something, not aesthetics.

Discussion in these threads is not so much rare, but lacking in substance and practical knowledge. Someone posted some great inspo book links regarding plants a thread or two ago. Greenterior and Urban Jungle are the only ones I remember, but the former looked gorgeous.

I'm always interested in discussing shit, but be warned that I don't have an education in architecture or interior design.

Well the tricky thing with plants is that their use as decoration depends on so many factors, like geographic region, life style, pets, kids, house layout (particularly windows) etc, so it can be hard to find common ground for discussion.

Anyway here's one thing I found particularly neat (though not really related since it's outdoors): an avenue of linden trees grafted together with each other, making them grow small and extremely homogeneous in size and shape. These were planted in the early 1920's.

I'm brazilian and we have suitable temperature for growing almost any plant 365 days a year. It is a shame that I wasted all this time without getting experience in botanics. I plan to work with urban planning or botanical research after I graduate.
Until now I have two dwarf palms, a flower that gonna die soon and a samambaia. Tried growing oranges from seed 3 months ago but they just died. The worst part is that I spent a whole week studying and writing about the cultivation of oranges and it failed anyway. Fruits today are all cloned from a strong plant to avoid these accidents. If you want to go full diy then start at least 10 seeds because you can bet a lot of them gonna die.

My plant project is taking a lot of time because I'm trying to grow them as much as possible and I avoid plastic pots because they are ugly as fuck so I either need money to buy nice ceramic pots or trying to find someone wwilling to give one away. USA seems like the paradise of donations. A lot of people says on /diy/ that if you want something (like an old plant pot) you just go looking for one or browse craiglist. Here in brazil we are much poorer and it is very difficult to get donations. You can't go dive dumping because trash don't even reach the floor before someone takes it.

Also do people really like go out livng or just it is just a meme? I never get the appeal of any shit they put together.

This style of symmetrical garden is really rare here. The gardens I'm used to see are a bunch of different plants growing with minimal care and some edibles here and there.
In your picture they manage the bush coorrectly. Here people cut it very squared and blocky. I prefer they like this so they look like a plant and not some man made element.

I like fruit plants and herbs, anything with a practical use is a huge plus in my book. I know fuck-all about proper cultivation though, but I succesfully grew a chili plant from seed to plant that gave me 10 fine chilis. I managed to almost kill it when I took it indoors after harvest by placing it in a window over a radiator and forgetting to water it for a while.

>My plant project is taking a lot of time because I'm trying to grow them as much as possible and I avoid plastic pots because they are ugly as fuck so I either need money to buy nice ceramic pots or trying to find someone willing to give one away
Shouldn't any second hand store have tons of those? Or else ikea might. I've no idea about how such things work in brazil of course.

This was part of what I got from my last "harvest" in September or October. Chili's and cucumbers not pictured.

The first time I tried to grow veggies from seeds. I bought a cell tray and planted maybe 50 seeds of various plants. Everything but a couple green beans and chili's survived. It was super depressing. Now I just buy veggies in those 4 pack things or a small po, and they tend to do quite well. If I had a better laid out kitchen, I'd grow herbs year round.

It's true that you can get decent planters for next to nothing in North America. I have no idea how it goes in Brazil, maybe you can at least buy basic terracotta planters and paint them if you're not a fan of the colour.

I like go out only for that these places look a bit more like normal apartment, and at least show a very interesting subculture of Americana (or reverse-weeaboo). Most of it is a clusterfuck, but there are some nice ideas and furniture mixed in too.

I fucking love plants, but you guys are TLDR, so here's what I've gathered.
Plants are the bomb. I say use as many as possible in decorating your house.
The U.S. is the land of waste, which is atrocious and terrible, and yet fucking awesome for poorfags like me. I can get so much free stuff, it's sick. And I can dress like a pro and live in a comfy, effay space with very little cash.
Plants will help to save us if we're only willing to save them. Plant a garden now and learn their wisdom or count your days as numbered.

TLDR nothing more effay than loving plants and gardening imho
