>> No.11880724

Use regular black textile dye from the grocery store next door.

Not op but I was thinking of doing the same thing.

Should I dye the whole thing black like pic related, or leave the flag patches alone like op's pic?

I'd take the flags off and put them back on after you dye.

Dyed mine recently and forgot to take them off. Probably gonna try to remove the epaulettes and some of the more military looking aspects of the coat. Now that it's black they just seem weird. Pretty satisfied though. I used iDye and iDye Poly and it's really black in person, this photo is a little over exposed.

i'm reading the reviews for idye and they're mixed, but i'm assuming most are due to incompetence. what was your process?

My process was actually pretty incompetent but it worked fairly well. I didn't have a pot big enough to do the stove top method (constant heat is supposedly especially important when dying polyester) so I boiled 2 big pots of water and poured them in a bucket then used a hot metal bar to reheat the water in the bucket every 10 minutes or so. I used 2 packs of iDye and 2 packs of iDye poly with a cup of salt and left the coat in the dye for around 50 minutes. I stirred it every 5 minutes or so. They say you need to stir constantly but my prior experience with dying said otherwise. I also used some dye fixative after I rinsed it the first time.

This is the most you can see of the pattern after 3 cold washes. It's just barely visible in a few areas when you look under a bright light.

>> No.11880889

>>11880747
i used a pulver which you do in the washing machine. after that you use clear water without pulver. so you have to do 2 washes in total.

Quick Info on sizing...
It uses a military sizing System.
There are short, normal and longer sizes . Also lower number =smaller sizing. A 5 should be 46 for Example.
1-4 manlet sizes (170 cm and smaller)
5-9 normal sizes
10-16 lanklet sizes (185 cm and bigger)
Keep in mind that you should size atleast one down since it is made to be worn over an inlay jacket against cold weather and overall is cut a bit wide for mobility.
Thank me later.

/k/ here also, fleck's easily my favorite pattern aesthetically and I'd have bought the parka and pants ages ago if my dollarydoo weren't in the shits and shipping didn't cost as much as my grandmother's funeral. Not going to lie though, OP's pic kind of gets me hard.

All this full black die bullshit needs to not happen though

My posts: >>/fa/thread/S11572650#p11572873

I suppose just use less dye, maybe try half or 3/4 a packet.

>> No.11884212

The parka is 90% cotton. The dye doesn't stick to non cotton fabric as well.
