>What is techwear?
We wear clothes to be comfortable, to cover up our shame, and more importantly for our protection. Technical clothing, focuses on incorporating functionality that enables breathability, water-resistance, comfort, etc. through the use of textiles and construction techniques. When you mention clothes a wide array of different designs will come to mind and it goes the same with techwear although the fashion community likes to lump technical clothing into this one look. This idea that it's a futuristic military style, but that's just not the case. Conroy Nachtigall a former designer of Arc'teryx Veilance explains creating technical clothing as:"It's not thinking about zippers is not thinking about seem tapes, not thinking about ... all these little elements. Those are all part of the end goal"

It's funny but a year or two ago no one even acknowledged it. It was just straight up cosplay. Now it's techwear. And you see lots of dudes who were only wearing denim and boots before working sneakers, joggers and technical hard shells into their fits or at least wearing them on their "non-fashion" days. So the movement is definitely growing and the number of designers offering technical pieces is growing each season. Dismissing it as only for weeaboos is only focusing on the hypebeast retards dressed in full ACRNM and not at the bigger picture.

>Do people try to make all their pieces functional? Is it OK to wear something because it looks right with what you're wearing?

Techwear at it's core is about functionality, not any specific aesthetic. In general I would say someone who describes himself as into techwear would be concerned with that than "looking right" at the expense of performance. Within reason... the most "functional" outfit for a hot day would be going naked slathered in sunscreen. Similarly exceptions could be made by someone aiming for a certain aesthetic.

>> No.11864542

>>11864509
I don't think sweaters need to be merino. Alpaca, llama or lambswool would work fine if you don't have it against your skin, if anything I would say wool is more functional seeing as it can only keep you warm (we all know how bad it is in the wet) and it performs it's function well plus technical I still think gets associated with that swoosh sound if nylon. Also wool had for a long time been used in military uniforms so from that front it does fit but maybe that's pushing a bit far towards milspo

>>11864505
I like to mix functional with normal sort of stuff at the moment seeing as it's pretty dry where I am and beginning to get cold

Probably the fact that techwear brands advertise themselves based on their aesthetic at least as much as on the functionality of their stuff.

bro, when and where are these sales???
I'm in van

>> No.11866400

you just missed a giant one at the convention centre.

go to their outlet on Dollarton in North Van (Google it). then get on their mailing list there and you'll get a heads up.

Warehouse sale is usually 4 days long, and chock-full of tiny annoying Asians buying mainline shit by the box full to ship back to China.

Go on the last day and they almost always knock another 40-50% off the reduced price.

I walked out this year with 3 Veilance pieces, a ball cap, a goose down mid-thigh 'puffy' jacket for the woman, a full-zip Covert Cardigan and a hoodie (again for the woman) for $1K CAD taxes-in (that's about 750 US for the Yanks).

The factory store in North Van always has Veilance. And they always have a small selection of LEAF (which imo is just as techwear if you can get black pieces). I found a pair of Goretex 3L LEAF pants there last week for $199 CAD.

I'll post some pics of my collection since I'm bored.

Oh and unlike 99.9% of "outlet" stores, the Arc'teryx one actually sells all mainline products. No bullshit garbage 'discount' line stuff specifically for outlets.

Here you'll find discontinued shit and seconds (the seconds I bought either have a dirt spot, a 'mark' of some kind, or a bad stitch somewhere).

Now, that being said, I was going to drive to the factory store today and see what was new, I could potentially take stock of what's there.

I don't mind re-shipping stuff from here (with a very modest like 10% fee for my time).

I'd have to double check, but I usually see the regular Field Jackets there for about $550 CAD (so around $420 USD).

There's 12% tax on top of that, which sucks ass.

Would there be any interest from the Techwear crowd in this? If I had the time and energy, I'd likely be able to sell for more on eBay/grailed.

it follows the tone of several dystopian scifi movies that existed before it.

it only seems groundbreaking to you because you've never seen those movies.

movies such as:
Midnight Eye Gokuu
Patlabor 2
A wind named Amnesia
and basically every movie directed by Kawajiri or Oshii before that
Oshii just took one of the stories from the gits manga, and made it fit the genre's tone and visuals.

the movie that set the tone and standard for dystopian scifi for years to come was The Matrix, and it also drew from other OVAs of that era like Angel Cop.
GitS didn't have a direct impact on movies. maybe it influenced Twilight of the Dark Master but it's hard to tell cause all those movies are super similar.

I recced arise because it's less outdated, not because it's better (it's not)

The fishtail Parka was first used in 1951 by the United States Army as weather protection in the Korean War and later became a cult clothing item for scooter-riding British Mods in the 1960s. This version is based on the loose-fitting M-65, which features a longer back and adapts well to variations in temperature. The slimmed down American silhouette also features a smaller German parka hood for an overall minimized shape and form. Other notable details include: a wire framed opposable hood, drawstring waist and hem with button storm flap and zipper fastening ensuring maximum weather protection. Each jacket also features the modular option for liner and hood attachments. The jacket fabric-OJJ-is made in Japan and is a knitted nylon/polyester micro-fibre which is finished exclusively in Italy by Ten c. This jersey will with time, mould itself almost imperceptibly to your body and will acquire a unique individual patina. Each jacket reflecting its own personal history and that of its user- It will become Your Jacket. Your favourite Jacket.

Start a rick/demobaza thread if you wanna dress like you're from BLAME!

Or are you trying to influence /tech/ into becoming goofninjas?
