As a photographer, 10/10s generally have an almost artificial feel to them. Good for some shots, but a lot of times it's hard to connect with them. Especially for advertising work you want to use models who the general audience perceives as attractive, but not so attractive that they dont perceive them as peers.

Is there any way to work in the fashion industry around models if you don't have good social skills? Maybe as a make-up guy? Although I wonder if it isn't so stressful that you won't even be really able to enjoy it.

Also who are the people who take these backstage photographs? Now that would be my dream job. But I guess for that you need good connections?

the make up people are professional make up people, to be a make up guy you need to learn all that professionalism

tl;dr no there isn't really a way to get into it without having some social skills and without learning another skill on top of that, but dont worry being sociable is the easy part it comes naturally (even if you don't think you are naturally sociable)

It's not that I have no social skills at all but I just imagine that to become successful in the fashion industry you need to have really above average people skills. Like if you are a photographer you need to be able to direct all those people during a photoshoot, you need to be able to connect with the model to get good, not awkward photographs from her, you need to be able to make friends so you can build a network of people who then offer you work... That seems to me like something you can't really learn, or at least not in a short amount of time.

they don't get mad cos i literally pay them, i am the boss, i just do what they tell me for the greater benefit of us both, however, i know that a lot of the shit they'll try to get me to do isn't worth it on my part, it doesn't pay, the exposure isn't big enough to be worth my time, and i don't have the time or inclination to travel to do it, so i don't, my agency can't say shit to me because i pay their wages

they're a bit more fussy and bitchy with girls because i feel like girls are worse at standing up for themselves, and it's far more competitive, and the girls do have the inclination to work more because for them the sky is the limit
