>What is techwear?
We wear clothes to be comfortable, to cover up our shame, and more importantly for our protection. Technical clothing, focuses on incorporating functionality through the use of textiles and construction techniques, this is a very broad definition. When you mention clothes a wide array of different designs will come to mind and it goes the same with technical clothing, although the fashion community likes to lump technical clothing into this one style. This idea that it's a futuristic military style, but that's just not the case. Conroy Nachtigall a former designer of Arc'teryx Veilance explains creating technical clothing as:"It's not thinking about zippers is not thinking about seem tapes, not thinking about ... all these little elements. Those are all part of the end goal"

Thanks guys, for being dedicated to wearing technical clothing. Glad that we have consistent threads all being active and filled to its brim before dying. It's really great!

I'm expecting to go make some bigger updates to the first style guide on tuxbell. Would be awesome if there wasn't just one person tackling the project

But from what I noticed, nobody in these threads actually wears this stuff

I just want to see what it looks like on average regular, non-model, non-photoshopped people

The style I actually like, especially compared to the overly hipster looking colorful crap out there at the moment

Also, screenscap with retards, for retards. You can keep making threads, but you'll stay butthurt

Speaking of pathetic: brand new ACRNM pants arrive to their owner with holes in them. This brand has such poor technical performance and bad quality as well. You can start getting in on the cheap
I've never seen this suggested, but go to an army surplus store.
You can get good basics on the cheap

Look for some simple black BDU pants, Pinroll them, or either get them tapered at the ends.

Jackets are hit or miss, most surplus stores I've been to have parkas, but they're very Vietnam Era looking.

Honestly, Thrift shops ain't too bad if you hunt at a few spots weekly.
Look in the Athletic Wear Sections

Most of my Tech Fits Run me cheap by doing this.

It won't be ACRNYM tier, But it'll give you a start.

Honesty, the fit I posted earlier was my 9 or 10th, and this is the only one I've ever gotten positive responses from.

Just mix/match and get feedback.

Mission Workshop bags are called "weatherproof" because they're being truthful. Actual waterproof bags are heavy and inconvenient to use; they're for canoeing and the like. Any bag being sold as "waterproof" that isn't a big heavy duffel is a lie. Cordura will keep your stuff dry in the rain just fine unless you're a dumbass and drop it in a puddle or something.

If you're looking for a bag to jump into lakes with, then that might be your ticket. I'd prefer a bag that carries my shit in a comfortable and organized fashion, and keeps it dry in rainstorms. It doesn't need to be waterproof, because I'm not jumping into lakes.

So I have some Levi commuter cargos that I don't usually wear, but want to since fall/winter is coming up. Problem is that they look bulky and are not tapered enough and I of course want them to mimic the cut of some P10s. Do you just take something like this to any tailoring/alterations place? The only places near me just seem to be either bridal boutiques that do formal alterations or dry cleaners. It seems like it would feel odd to come in with some water repellant cyclist cargos and ask them to style it based on some ACR product shots.

5000mm is a rating used for FABRICS, not bags. A large number of bags are made out of waterproof material, but are not constructed in a waterproof fashion, hence "weatherproof" or "water resistant" or something along those lines. If the bag is intelligently designed, this will keep your shit dry unless you go canoeing with it.

It can hold boiling liquids, but shake it at your own risk- steam will fill the thing and pop the lid. That said, mixing warm cocoa/sugar/whey/oatmeal shakes is so fucking worth it. Just open it every time you give it a small shake to equalize pressure and then you have a toasty, tasty thing.

Are we basing the "acronym is shit quality" meme I've been reading in this thread on the P23TS cuff issue from the latest batch (a legit fuck-up) and the Nike Presto collab with some poorly glued tape on the upper (more of a Nike fuck-up than an Acronym fuck-up)?
Because I've been an acronym customer for a long time and the last word I would use to describe the quality of their clothing is "shit". My P23's arrived without a problem this season, as did my two pairs of prestos. Well over a dozen pieces ordered and no issues to complain about other than a poorly garment dyed piece from a Nemen collab which was exchanged for another one.
My biggest complaint with Acronym is their customer service which was kinda ok a few years ago, but has gotten progressively worse to the point where now it's nearly impossible to get a response from them.

when you compare this with veilance where almost all the reviews are glowing positive to the point of cultism, then we can consider that there is some quality issues in acronym that extend beyond minor faults and defects here and there (which in itself is kind of fucked given the price of this stuff, each piece should be gone over with a fine tooth comb)

In my case both pairs of pants had issues with a nyco fabric starting to wear through after 1 and 1.5 years respectively. Shit man before you spend the $ on the dsptch one, I recommend this one https://amzn.com/B016WERL3Q
It definitely doesn't look as cool as the dsptch or Outlier, but the fidlock connector is easier to use and it's 1/4 the price. Plus I have both and I can tell you from experience that more than once the dsptch has come unclasped without me unclasping it. The cheap amazon one has never once done that and as a result I use it more frequently.

>>11801830
>almost complete lack of any technical performance from acrnm
This is the exact opposite of my experience with the brand. I'm truly curious what you mean by that. They're using the same Goretex that veilance is using. Actually not really - Acronym uses Goretex pro in 100% of their GT jackets. Veilance is using the less breathable regular Goretex in more than half of their jackets.
>constant zipper failures
Using the wrong language again, homie. "Constant" wouldn't quantify most people's experience with the brand.
>seams tearing reported on sufu
Won't argue with this. I saw the issue with the P23's on sufu and it made me nervous to open the box I received from Acronym a few days ago. My P23's ended up being fine. Maybe that was because I got the CH ones and all the problems being reported were with the S ones. I don't know.. As a fan of the brand it definitely made me kind of pissed. What was even more upsetting is the lack of customer outreach regarding the issue. But at the end of the day, it ended up being an issue reported by only a few people that was affecting only P23TS-S.

I would imagine any issues with "lack of any technical performance" are from people buying the gabardine and etaproof stuff and not knowing what it is. Goretex literally will not let you sell products with their name that don't perform.

Thanks for the info, makes the pricing a bit more justified. I've been eyeing Veilance pieces for 2+ years but they've always been far out of my price range for clothes. So no issues with your other Veilance pieces?

>> No.11803873

Nope, my monitor Sft coat from 2012 still looks pretty much brand new. One of the great things about veilance (and arc generally) is that they are always experimenting. This means that occasionally something doesn't work right, like the nylon/cotton blend I was having durability issues with. With their warranty you get all the benefits without the risk, since if something isn't working you can always get it replaced.

Does anyone know of a plain-looking student-type backpack made with particularly good fabric? I've searched high and low and I haven't been able to find anything. Some kind of especially extra-thick and chunky nylon is what I'd really like to find. I think I would actually pay hundreds of dollars for one, i such a thing even fucking existed....

Something identical-looking to pic related, but with killer material.....

While not identical to that Jansport, the Outlier Ultrahigh or Veilance Nomin are both plain looking and are both made with particularly good fabric, however neither are made from fabric that I would consider extra-thick or chunky. In fact the fabrics are quite the opposite.

If you want something made from 1000 weight cordura nylon fabric and heavyweight #10 YKK nylon self-locking zippers, look at Red Oxx. Their shit is built like a tank with double box stitching at all stress points and their prices are affordable considering its all made in the USA. The complete downside to Red Oxx is that the design of their products are extraordinarily utilitarian and not at all fashionable. And their color options are straight outta a 4 year old's crayola box.

hello everybody.
thanks for everyone that contributed on the wiki, loved to read that.
i've been lurking these threads for a while now and i'm working on a personal project about techwear. i'm a graphic designer based in milan and i'm working on a book that i'm thinking to name "techwear manual" that should provide the basics on how to be a "21st century ninja" and pretty much show the aestethic of the whole techwear concept.
if anybody has cool high res/hq pictures of techwear fits please email them to me at reik.nm@gmail.com.
also if anyone wants to collaborate with me on the project with text or whatever contact me.
