Take full advantage of the height of the room for shelving
There's a bed frame on Amazon that doesn't require a box spring and allows for a lot of storage under the frame
Go to a thrift store and buy filing cabinets. They're empty shells for storage and make for a very compact table. Also they're generally able to be stacked on top of one another
Get a few potted plants to make the room feel alive. They're under ten dollars and available in any big box store or grocery store

idk, $300 000 might do it.
you put 30k down, and then get a reallly long mortgage, and instead of paying rent you pay 800/month to bank. then you literally never pay it off, but sell it later and get some of your money back

>> No.11507489

>>11507470
Unlikely. You'll need more in a good city for a nice view. 300k may buy you a very small condo in a decent city, but probably not in an amazing location. Floors with better views often have nicer apartments as people will pay a premium for the view. Then you have to pay for remodelling and nice furniture, and condo fees on top of your mortgage.

what are you talking about, 3k a month is extortion

isn't rent supposed to be at max 33% of your income? renting a place like that, i would need to make over 100k NET. most people will never make that kind of cash, especially here. even in your example of a DC apt at 670sqft, it's still 2k, which is over 70k net. but most people pay well over 33% because they have to.

The top is an old marble fireplace back. I got it off some guy on gumtree for £60.
The legs are called hairpin legs, £30ish from eBay.
The legs are screwed in to plywood, which then supports the marble top. I didn't feel the need to secure the top because its heavy as shit anyway and ain't moving. Hope that helps?

Be careful with pallets. Unless you want to go full unfinished wood and linen everywhere, it might end up looking really out of place. If you have a box spring (I can't tell from the photo), just get legs and maybe a headboard. Cover everything with a white cotton/linen bed skirt, and you'll still have storage space. Since you have white baseboards/framing, maybe get some art/posters/printed shit in plain white frames, or have accent furniture in white. Get some wall art regardless. Since it's a small room, try not to clutter it with stuff. I love your wall colour btw. My dining room is a really light blue.

There's an inset bookcase the corner from where that picture was taken. I read 7-10 hours a week, mostly on art and society, and have finished 3 books recently. ikea or etsy will have them for hilariously high prices only a literally retarded person would consider acceptable

you can just get the wood at home depot but to get the rustic weathering you have to:
>select a board that shows the heart grain pattern you want
>re-finish the surface by ripping over it with a large coarse circular blade, or a large and very coarse sanding disk
>weather it in the sun and rain for weeks/months depending on the wood and original treatment
>varnish, revisit with sandpaper

the genuine article is something like rough ripped native wood originally used in construction 100+ years ago. with age, the wood greys inside and blackens on the outside like that

the shelves over the bed were salvaged from a potentially 100+ year old building. they appear to have been the equivalent of the 2x4 studs we use today (not sure why one of them looks to be 8 inches wide). the white lines at regular intervals were the gaps in between the pre-drywall slats where plaster was applied as a filler

I'm renovating two rooms in my mom's 170 year old house right now, hopefully I'll be able to reclaim enough aged lumber to build a few pieces for my new house
