am i being trolled?

wool is better in the winter. linen is better in the summer. poly fibers are better for wet-weather gear, silk is better for jammies, chicken is better for tendies, cotton confirmed for BTFO

or you can get cotton and play all the roles with a single fabric

cotton doesn't breathe like linen. it doesn't insulate like wool. it doesn't sluff off rain like polycancer. it doesn't feel as soft and smooth as silk.

so actually it doesn't play any of those roles.

it's nice for making denim and jersey for t-shirts and jeans. and it makes a good terry fabric. but it's no replacement for any of the aforementioned fabrics.

Linen breathes far, far better than cotton. It's also strong while remaining very thin and lightweight.
Unlike wool, cotton loses all of its insulating properties when it gets wet. Wool also is better at insulating and regulating body temperature in the first place.
I'm not a huge fan of synthetic fabrics, but cotton can't hold a candle to polyester when it comes to moisture wicking.
Silk is far softer and warmerbthan cotton.
Cotton's main advantage is that it's cheap to produce and holds color well. You could say the same for polyester, though cotton generally feels nicer on your skin and doesn't generate as much static electricity.
In the end, there's no one fibre that is better than all others at every task.
