Do you the layering on the sweater/ tee? I'm also 5'9 and want the same thing. I think it's just a matter of getting the size perfect. I wonder if its just a question of finding out the exact length you need for the sweater and then having the t-shirt X inches longer

Eh, i think the top layer probably needs to be slightly wider as to hang straight rather than the fabric constricting each other. I've got similar results with thrift tops over decent tees, but it's hard to find lots of stuff that really has the weight and construction to jut out cleanly rather than "drape."

I'm mostly worried about if cropped pants are gonna confine the look and make the silhouette look squished on someone my height.

Honestly, they're normie as fuck and /fa/ would probably never recommend them, but check Banana Republic. They have some really nice pants and they're not stupidly expensive. I got some there yesterday that are pretty much exactly what you want but a different color.
