Looked at the Airking and found this one by accident. I think I like the bracelet on the Tudor better and it's much cheaper. The ETA movement versus Rolex's in-house movement makes no difference to me. If anything, it would be easier (and cheaper) for my watchmaker to service it.
Originally I was looking for an older Explorer, but prices are ridiculous with the whole watchcraze of the last few years. The 36mm Tudor Sub is nice, but still a Sub and everyone and their grandmother has one. The Black Bay is nice, but too big for me. If you get a boner for movements and/or want to sell it later spend a little more on a newer Black Bay with the in-house movement.
So I think the Prince is the best choice for me right now.

a bit unrelated, but i'm the guy that was considering to order some custom leather wallets from a certain french leather specialist
my straps are from another french house, which frankly has marginally better materials and finising, but i'm going with the former because their designs are more 'pragmatic', and i've seen menswear stoes in japan carry them, and i trust jap's taste when it comes to these things

anyhow, i randomly checked their instagram and saw this
i'm no leather expert but i've handled quality gator/croc, and this one looks a bit poor, dry-looking, uneven scales and lines
their stuff i've seen in person look fine, but just this pic that makes me have second thoughts
i wonder if it's because it's made by a branch across the pond? the watch is a citizen? the client requested this himself? that i should go back to my usual maker and ask them to do a one off design for me?

No sense in turning your nose up at a fantastic brand that has created some of the most distinctive watches of all time. The manufacturers you mentioned are all great and are crafted to a higher standard than Rolex, but there is no reason to look down on Rolex just because of this

Much of the proceeds from a Rolex watch go to charity, livable wages to workers, etc.
Everything you've ever bought at retail has had the price jacked up. Rolex has high prices because they are masters of marketing and they know that this creates demand for the product. It is a Veblen good

Personally I hate the Visodate, I think it's really plain and unrefined looking and every single Tissot just looks really cheap. Have you looked at the Hamilton Jazzmaster watches instead? I like a lot of those and they're nicer than the Khaki watches, although they may be out of your budget. The Hamilton Intra-matic is also pretty cool but not quite the same style as those watches you posted and also out of your budget a bit.

I'm not a fan of that Seiko SNK either, why not get an Alpinist (SARB017) instead? The Alpinist is a very nice looking watch which is also green and gold and it's on the same (surprisingly high) level of quality as the other SARBs you listed, that SNK is a cheaper watch.

But I have to say I'm biased towards Seiko and if you want a SARB then I would absolutely recommend it, I love both of my SAR* watches.

Any suggestions on what watch should I buy for wearing with a suit at work? I'm usually wearing a navy blue one with black shoes and black belt with a silver bucke, so I'm looking for something classic, silver frame/white face/black leather strap. Any suggestions? I liked it for almost the exact reasons you'd listed.

And thanks for recommending Poljot, I really like the look of them. Have my eyes on a few now.

That's because it's a Seiko which isn't necessarily a bad brand. The 6139 does use a speshul snowflake movement that you cannot handwind so it's going to cost more to service. Look at the prices of vintage Daytonas and pre-moon Speedmasters fetch. They are all based on Lemania or Venus movements that common and easy to service.

Opinions on Seiko's kinetic watches?

I didn't really care much about watches until I needed one for nursing. Got a cheap one from amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Prestige-Medical-Nurse-Reader-Watch/dp/B002NL0U7C

Had buyer's remorse; walked into a few watch/jewelry shops. Saw this. Fucking beautiful to my untrained eyes.

http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKA623-Analog-Display-Japanese/dp/B00I1M2138

It was on clearance too for $160. I don't know if that is a decent price, but

Kinetic watch running on quartz. I don't know much about it other than it's like having a dog; gotta walk it daily. Otherwise, I'd end up replacing capacitors for 40-90 dollars.

then I saw the Seiko 007 recommendation

http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX007K-Divers-Automatic-Watch/dp/B000B5MI3Q

Pretty nice.

I'm looking for a watch I can wear on most occasions. Simple, dependable, nice to look at.

Any word on kinetic? Are they a bad buy? Should I buy the automatic watch instead? Any nurses here that can recommend a decent watch for work?

The seiko kinetic models are basically battery powered quartz watches. The only difference is instead of having a battery, there's a rotor(like in automatic mech watches) that spins a little generator that charges a small capacitor to power the hands like a battery.

-Keeps accuracy way better than mechanical because it's Quartz
-no battery to replace, but capacitor will eventually go bad after 15-25 years.
-still a quartz

>one question: since 009 is automatic, why do I have to shake it to wind it?

shaking it (or just wearing it on your wrist as you go about your business) spins a weight in the watch that winds a spring and makes the watch run. That's called automatic because you put it on your wrist and don't do anything. If it runs all the way out though, you have to give it a shake to get it started.

You know, the SKA623 still looks real nice. To me, the pictures online doesn't really do watches justice, which is why I favor going to the store to try watches on. The depth and the way the different shades of blue hits the light. It's a shame that its kinetic..

It's worth it. The Cal 1861 in the moonwatch is better hence the price difference. Also it was worn on the phucking moon.

Not the most /fa/ watch, but it used to belong to my grandfather. He got this watch when he won the Knights of Columbus state bowling championship in '83. I'm an avid bowler and a Knight, so he gave it to me before he died.

Take it to a watchmaker to get a new crystal. It's a very simple job and it should be cheap, it'll make the watch look a million times better. Generic replacement crystals are cheaper but for my quartz Seiko similar to yours I was able to find an original Seiko replacement crystal so you can probably do that for yours too if you want to keep all the parts original.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get the movement serviced too, I bet it runs fine as it is because quartz is so durable but a servicing would get it nice and clean and make it last many more years.

I bought an NOS Big Zero a couple of months ago and it's a neat looking watch but it's really pretty horrible quality with shitty dial printing and a dirty poorly finished movement that ticks really loudly. Don't expect much more than a cool little novelty watch with a very distinctive dial and don't overpay.
