I bought some oxfords (as dress shoes, not regular wear) that fit perfectly fine when I tried them on at the store, but when I walked to a job interview, after a few blocks, I started getting some pain in my left Achilles tendon area. When I stopped to adjust my shoe, assuming the sock had bunched up or something, I noticed that the shoe had rubbed the skin so badly that I was actually bleeding and leaving a noticeable blood stain on my sock. It's only the left foot that did this, the right was perfectly fine.

What can I do to fix this? Do I just preemptively wear a bandage on my heel whenever I wear these shoes? Is there special insole or DIY fix I could do?

I'd rather not return the shoes because A) they're actually rather nice shoes that aside from the bleeding, fit fine, and B) I walked several blocks in them already and took the tags off, so I don't even think returning them would be an option.

I got this when I bought my first boots as well. The boots fitted snug and perfect but the heel rubbing was INSANE in the first 2-3 weeks. The back of my feet were scraped with blood and skin like you. It stopped eventually once the soles started to flex more and became more broken in. New soles tend to be hard and want to stay flat so they don't come up to your achilles areas when you walk. The result is scraped skin. Once your skin healed, they'll also become tougher.

From my experience, don't wear them too frequent to allow your skin to heal first. You can stick moleskin or bandaid to your achilles area.
